I'M SO EXCITED

I grew up in Star Trek thanks to my mom, and for her birthday earlier this week I got her tickets to see it at the local IMAX theater. When I saw The Dark Knight at this place, holy crap was it intense. I can't even begin to imagine how epic this movie is going to be on such a huge ass screen.

Epic. Also, I hate you. The IMAX here is at the zoo and it only shows educational films.

Granted an IMAX film costs 12 bucks to get into...

All I have to say about IMAX is wait to eat your snacks until after the bar scene.

The title of the Journal includes "No Spoilers" for a reason dude. Go see it and decide for yourself if it has a plot or not.

My cousin saw it and almost killed himself... and he was a trekkie.

Blink... almost killed himself because he didn't think anything could top this moment in his life and wanted to die at his life's peak or because he hated the movie? I'm a Trekkie so I don't honestly understand how he couldn't have liked that movie.

What? Because Engineering wasn't a large room with a glowing tube in it and anything useful has to be physically accessed through a series of smaller tubes much like the internet? It was less streamlined yes, but it was still definitely Star Trek.

Just about the only people that don't like it are ultra-orthodox trekkies that hate the idea that they are rebooting the franchise, much less the fact that J.J. Abrams is the one directing it, and can't get around their prejudices.

As much as I try to avoid star trek, this movie's trailers compel me, and you are not helping either XD. You don't need to know anything about star trek to enjoy it tho, do you?

It's an origin story and they really tried to make this a movie that everyone could enjoy, but they left a lot of references to the original series in there for the fans which adds to experience in my opinion. Like Kirk and his tendency to end up with women with green skin for some reason.

Um.... that shouldn't be that difficult. The original series is... well cheese and campy are kind of understatements, let me put it that way. I enjoyed Next Generation, but Deep Space Nine was my favorite series of any of the Star Trek stuff. I think primarily because it was a Space Station rather than a ship. The weird stuff came to them rather than the other way around. Voyager really wasn't as terrible as a lot of people say it was. It's not as good as Next Gen or DS9, but it's not the steaming pile of dreck that a lot people make it out to be.

What got me into Star Trek was watching Enterprise. It was a good series to watch as my introduction, I think, since it was essentially the first Enterprise crew and their adventures. It's nice to know all the background details. :3

I think my only complaint was it felt like the guy playing McCoy was overacting a bit. Of course, that really seems to be an odd complaint about a star trek movie, so I suppose I shouldn't be bothered. I just think like "Overacting!" and then the other part of my brain is like "Stfu, bitch! Shatner was ten times worse!" It's like a trekkie fight in my head. It makes me want to smack me and tell me to get a life.

Yes! Overacting has.... been something of a.... staple of the series for a.... long time! KHAAAANN!!!!

It had the best of everything. Except for the fight scene camera guy. I could hardly tell what was going on during that first fist fight.

He could sword fight. Apparently in one episode when the whole crew starts acting like barbarians or something Sulu is walking around with a rapier and letter says that he was an expert fencer. So they gave a little head nod to that, but apparently didn't realize that fencing and kendo are rather different. Oh well. The retractable katana was still awesome.

My favorite part was the scene where they were talking almost directly to the Trekkies in the audience, admitting that *avoiding a spoiler here* "the trick used to make the entire movie possible without destroying canon" was indeed "cheating"...everyone in the theater was chuckling at that obvious breaking of the wall...
