So I saw Star Trek.
Oh.
My.
Fucking.
GOD.
...
Like I said, I'm a life-long Trekkie.
The Next Generation started in '89, when I was four years old. I have been watching Trek since before I could even remotely understand it as anything more than spaceships flying around shooting at each other.
This movie was incredible. For starters, it got all the reimagined characters dead on.
Kirk is completely self-assured, you truly believe that this man does not believe in a no-win situation. Bones is cynical, but it's because he cares deeply about his friends and realizes the astonishingly slim odds they're operating under. Spock struggles with the logic he strains to follow and the emotions he's expected to pretend that he does not have.
Even the supporting characters seem familiar. Chekov, despite being played by an actual Russian actor, speaks with the familiarly hammy accent that somehow switches Vs and Ws. Scotty is as flippant as he is talented with a machine (and it's downright criminal how little screentime he gets).
Even the new stuff is great. The villain Nero comes off as completely twisted by rage and obsession, committing some truly brutal acts in the name of revenge. (and holy fuck do I ever mean it when I say brutal)
I only saw it a few short hours ago, and I already can't wait to see it again.
TL;DR?
See this movie.
If you're a Trekkie, it will be like a million orgasms at once.
If you've never seen a single episode of Trek before, that's okay, no prior understanding is necessary at all.
Go. See. This. Movie.
RAVING FANBOYISM OVER.

FA+

it was also great how they worked the AU so it didn't conflict with the storylines we all know and love.
overall a very enjoyable movie. And I really REALLY don't say that often
