Indoor Cats and Fleas (warning)

So if you read my twitter you probably know that my cat has been a bit ill lately. Turns out she got something from a flea.
She's an indoor cat and hasn't been outside more than a few minutes in her life. I've always had indoor cats and never had to deal with fleas before, so I didn't know that if you share a house with other animals all of them should get flea prevention.
Turns out fleas have types (there's dog fleas, cat fleas) and most fleas are cat fleas. So if you have a cat and a dog, if the dog tracks in a flea it will find the cat.
I figured I'd make a journal to spread this info. Keep your pets safe, get them protection. It only takes one flea to fuck up your day.
(Nyx is fine and has been treated. so yay not sick cat)

Glad to hear it wasn't anything serious. But I toally agree with this. I also have only had indoor-only cats and I have had to deal with fleas once the whole time and that was also dog fleas from (obviously) a dog. No heath issues, but had to get them treated for them. Now I am more concerned of letting peoples dogs in my home. :p

My cat is strictly indoors. A few mice have gotten in over the past few years, but nothing picked up from them.

Also fleas lay their eggs in carpets so if you find a flea vacuum the hell out of your carpets. Also, a small cap of dish detergent and a night light attracts fleas so the drown in the detergent.

I missed one our cat's flea dosages after staying on top of it for 5 years. We have to wash everything, buy tho repellent sprays for all the furniture, vacuum beds and cushions, flea baths, and bought a waterhose outdoor flea solution too. It was horrible, but we managed to get it under control. My poor sisters had flea bites too.
