2015 Retrospective
10 years ago
I realize this is kind of a month late, being the end of January, but nonetheless I thought I ought to reflect on my stated goals from last year http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6577201/ and see how I did... whether anyone else cares or not;
New reference images for Rina and Niko (in the format of Maple/Jazz's 'new' ones)
Nope... STILL haven't done these yet. I suppose I just haven't felt confident enough to sit down and do them, because I get a bit antsy about having to make sure everything's EXACTLY correct and stuff? But I should really put this at the top of my to-do list when I get the chance. (and add Claire, too)
Update Maple's reference with a 'standard outfit' for her (currently working on the design)
Did it, hooray! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10070678/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10070707/
Fix a bug Jazz's Flash reference, because I totally forgot to do that
Did this one too! Well, technically I didn't figure out what caused the bug (and
leumassetay even showed it to some of his programming friends, and they had NO idea why it didn't work >.< ), but I did a different work-around that works well enough instead. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11755742/
Get my work/job handled to a point where I spend less time out of work feeling tired/unmotivated to do my own stuff
Not really... I think I'm just an inherently extremely lazy person. Even during the several months when I was out of work, I still didn't do much personal art or projects or anything!! I'm still working on this.
Draw my own characters (as well as ponies) more frequently (though I tend to struggle a bit with ideas...)
Maybe? I did actually draw a handful of things with my own characters, but not as much as I would've liked. I feel like I get so worried about drawing nice things that show characters' personalities and stuff like that, when I should be willing to settle for plainer images (or even fanservicey ones) from time to time.
Also I didn't draw any ponies. I haven't even watched any of season 5 yet, which I really need to do... kinda feel like I should wait until I do watch it before drawing more, in case there's new stuff in the new season I ought to be aware of?
Maybe introduce a new character that I mostly-designed a while back but haven't felt confident enough to share yet (since I wanted to try and 'establish' my existing characters more...)
Yes! I finally got around to introducing Claire http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17234511/ , who technically has existed for quite a while but for some reason I was never certain about her design/colors, or whether I should be introducing a new character with even bigger boobs than the rest. But she's here now.
Upload stuff I've drawn in various OpenCanvas sessions with friends
Only did one page of stuff so far, still need to tackle the rest... It's just a bit intimidating because there's so much of it.
Upload all the commissions I've gotten that I still have yet to upload (making some progress on this)
Haven't finished yet, but I have finally been putting up stuff recently. Just need to remember to do it every so often.
Get more new commissions, since having a job = having sweet cash boyyyyyeeeeeeeeee
I've definitely gotten new pics over the course of the year (though of course I have yet to upload them myself), though as with drawing my own characters, I feel compelled to always have some kind of 'interesting idea' rather than just settling for general fanservice or letting the artist do whatever they feel like.
Unfortunately, now that the Canadian dollar/exchange rate has taken a sharp turn for the worse, buying new commissions is... substantially less attractive, unless I earn more American money through others commissioning me (which also seems to have taken a sharp drop-off?). I may just have to hold tight for a while, or at least only get pics rarely until things improve.
There are a couple specific pics that I want, but either the aforementioned exchange rate issue is in the way, or the artist(s) in question aren't currently open for commissions.
...Still waiting on some people that have yet to deliver, too.
Watch people that I've been meaning to watch but never get around to doing so because I always seem to be behind on things from the people I currently watch
...Not so much. I did finally get around to watching
jaeh at some point, but that's probably about it. It's probably mostly because I feel compelled to fave a large chunk of an artist's gallery when I watch them, for better or for worse, making it a bit of a mental block I need to overcome.
Unfortunately, I think at least a couple of the artists I'd meant to watch in the past have taken a turn for drawing... less-savory things than they used to, so I'm not sure if I'll ever watch them now >_<
Also keep up better with said messages
I still keep falling behind on inbox messages and doing big catch-up chunks, but at least I'm doing them every week instead of waiting even longer...!?
MAKE ALL THE SENPAIS NOTICE ME ;__;
I sincerely doubt this happened XP The chances of getting a popular artist to notice me or my affections are pretty slim!
...In short, I really didn't do so well last year >_> But I'm really going to aim to complete all those art-related goals (ref sheets and other uploads) this year for sure.
But there are certainly some positives from the past year; for one, I've been back at work for a bit, and will have a solid one-year contract coming up in a little while.
leumassetay has also quickly become a very close friend, and I really appreciate his company. And Undertale was released, that's pretty darn good :v
In any case, happy (late) new year to all, hopefully things will be looking up...!
