Word of caution, if traveling along the 10 in Texas, be warned about the town of Van Horn, its a hard core speed trap, they love tagging "foreign plates" for speeding. 5 miles before and 5 miles after, DO NOT EXCEED THE SPEED LIMIT!!

Sadly they are also the only gas for 50-60 miles.

Say what you want but california takes care of their own even in the worst of times.

That said, thanks for the heads up, i saw van horn coming up and indeed at least 3 or 4 speed traps. I might be the only person i've ever met to make that drive and not get speed trapped a single time.

Glad the tip helped you, I've been arrested there for other bullshit, ticketed twice, including 5 miles outside of town going 57 the cop said I was going over 70 when I knew damn well I wasn't. Since then I crawl through at just below the speed limit 5 miles before and after that hell hole. I truely believe they are financing that towns needs through speeding tickets. Especially from out of staters who will likely not come back to argue it in court.

Well i'm in san antonio for now. Ultimate plan is to be in college station. I might be staying here longer than expected though. Sorta playing it by ear.

safe travels! that sounds like quite the drive!

omfg, never again. It sucked so fucking bad. I seriously thought i was trapped in a horror movie and the I-10 was some like demonic road that never ended.

Bear in mind, I-10 stretches from Cali to Florida, The Texas drag as I call it is the ultimate worst. I was so bored along that stretch I played "Spot the Roadkill" and kept a talley card what I saw, stuff like Armadillo,Possum, Raccoon, deer, coyote, rabbit, bird and Unidentifiable.


But yeah, I HATE that long drag through Texas. When I drive west each February, I dread the Texas, New Mexico end.

My favorite part was the worlds longest, flattest straightest highway in new mexico, probably the 10, when the sun rose literally EXACTLY where the road disappears over the horizon like 100 miles away, i think i might have permanent retina damage lol.

Yeah, I usually get that going home.

It doesn't, I-10 keeps on going straight to Great Britain I'm pretty sure...

At one point when i thought i could finish the trip without stopping other than to piss i was so tired i had to pull over and sleep for 3 hours. I like slept wrong using my b3 bomber as a pillow and my eyes were all fucked up, couldn't focus on the fucking same thing quite, it was PITCH BLACK, and the speed limit is 80, with most people going more like 90, my headlights only illuminated like 35 feet in front of me. most terrifying few hours of driving of my life lol.

Been there, know that feeling! Speed limit is up to 85 along some stretches, of course people usually to 15 over what's posted regardless. The further east ya go the more numerous the deer get too, definitely not fun driving those long stretches at night!

I`ve driven to TFF from phoenix like 5 times. I`ve learned to drive that long you need a plan.I leave after a good sleep around midnight or so and drive through the dark when I`m most awake.I am hopefully on the last few hours of drive when I`m most tired as the sun is setting or has just set.SO that way you dont have hours of driving in the dark when youre tired. It seems to take forever to get from el paso to dallas though.

I've considered moving to Texas myself. One of these days I'll make a trip down to check it out for myself. Let me know what ya think of if.

I like it so far a lot. People are very friendly and welcoming. It's like the opposite of arizona where just for having california plates people couldn't have been bigger pricks to me it seemed like the whole time i was there. People take frequent jabs at me for being from california but in a playful way. Hell i was out to dinner with my grandmother who lives here and i noticed this guy at the next table was like staring through me once he heard me talk about how things are different from california, good ol' boy looking guy with a cowboy hat and big belt buckle, coudln't get a read on him but after my experience in arizona i was thinking he was not pleased. He was staring at me from like 4 feet away for like 10 minutes, then got up to leave and walked to my table and said he overheard i'm from california and moved here, welcomed me to texas and asked how i liked it, chatted for a bit asked me why i moved and welcomed me to texas and shook my hand, the people have been seriously awesome.

Everything seems to cost less out here, which is one of the reasons i moved which is great, gas, food, rent, everything, good place to start a business and have a low overhead.

The weather is gorgeous right now, like perfect, everybody is warning me that's gonna change very soon and the summers are miserable.

The freeways are utterly terrifying lol, i'm a great driver but i hate driving, and fuck do you have to drive a lot here, the freeways have higher speed limits, 75 and 80 sometimes which is a lot more than the 65 in california, traffic isnt near as bad so you're always hauling ass which is good and nerve wracking at the same time. I'm sure i'll adjust to it. It's just weird coming from the bay where you can't tell when one city ends and another begins and it can take you literally 20 minutes to go a single block in that traffic. Here there's like little pockets of civilization with hours and hours of nothing in between. To texans a two hour drive to the next city to go eat at a restaurant isn't a big deal. In california we only drive that far if we like have to, to go see somebody or visit family or go to some big event.

It's thankfully not impossible to get vegetarian food but restaurants i can get a real meal at are definitely way fewer and farther in between than in cali. Also EVERYBODY, and i mean EVERYBODY has to comment on me being a fucking vegetarian lol, it's getting a little old but they're generally doing it in a joking way, i'm like an alien out here to them lol.

There's way less fat people than i thought there would be lol. Some southern states seem to be nothing but.

Might be the time of year but it's not pretty. Something i miss about the bay area. I took for granted how gorgeous it is year round there.

Gun stores fucking everywhere, which i love lol.

Not sure why you would move but I think i'm gonna be quite happy here.

I've lived in the same area of Indiana all my life and I'm just thinking of a change of pace. I prefer heat over the cold most of the time so the winters up here are not something I would miss. I'm sure the size would be an adjustment. Just about anywhere you go here you aren't more than 30 min drive from the next small town. Texas is just a consideration. I'm open to anywhere in the south really. I hope things continue to work out well with your new home and business.
