Birthday Weekend in DC Recap
General
I had been making a point of over the past few weeks of trying to find something to do over my birthday weekend, since I knew I wasn't going to be travelling my normal route and the thought of turning 37 alone, stuck in the Middle of Winter up here didn't appeal much to me. I was having a really difficult time deciding what I ought to do with myself however - since travelling by yourself, while it gives you total flexibility, can also be a bit of a drag. It was a stroke of good fortune and well, a least a bit of good intuition or luck on my part that in the midst of being torn a bunch of different ways and not convinced of any of them, I reached out to
degiburr and
Osogrump out of the blue really to ask if they wouldn't mind being tour guides and just someone to hang around with if I ended up making my way to Washington DC, which was a trip I had my heart on for several years now.
They agreed, which was something of a brave move on their part, having not had that many opportunities to talk with them, and we ended up having a really great time walking about the Museum of Natural History and the American History Museum:
We also spent a good amount of time, outside of the touristy stuff just bantering back and forth, watching the Great British Bake Off ( which they are obsessed with but which turns out to be a one of those very rare things - a good spirited, and amiable Reality Show/Contest where you actually learn stuff) , and eating -because we are Bears and they know the city restaurants really well. I definitely came prepared to be spoiled in that regard and that was on target, and in the meantime got to meet quite a few of the DC Furry Group (I now know far more of the DC Furry Group than the Toronto Furry Group which is in a word.....Sad.)
I have some pictures of the actual Tourist stuff too and you'll find those in the link below but it was really nice to meet a few new friends and I *may* have been convinced to go to Anthrocon this year. It still feels like an awful lot of folks and overwhelming but I had such a nice experience and a chance to run into these guys again and some other friends I'd really like to meet means that I'm seriously considering it.
