Skype etiquette: Online means online, right?

If that is the case... why do people have the online status when asleep/too busy/out/at work/generally away from Skype for a long period of time?
It makes no sense!!
I am honestly getting fed up with people who have the online status and yet asleep or at work or whatever, it takes less than 5 seconds to change status, Skype even has a setting that changes it automatically after a set period of time away, and it's just general courtesy.
What's even worse is when they have their status to online, you speak to them thinking they're online, then hours later they message back saying "Why did you speak when I was asleep?" and then start moaning at you when you say "Because your status was online so I assumed you were there."
In my eyes:
Online/Available - There and able to talk
Busy - There but will be slow if a respose
Away - Not there but may be later/soon
Offline - Not there
I know people like to keep computer and Skype on while asleep so it's easier and faster to get back on, but changing status isn't time consuming. I admit that when people get called away suddenly then there's no time, or if they 'pass out' then again there's no time either.... but as said in first part of this journal there's a setting that'll change it for you (and if people pass out as much as they claim then they should really go to a doctor, not healthy if half my contact list seems to pass out every day at random without even able to say "I'm getting tired" before they 'pass out').
This is just like using BRB's and Bye's; It helps the other person know there won't be a reply. It's just common decency to tell people you're leaving/can't talk while in the middle of a chat/RP, otherwise they're just left hanging there wondering where the hell you went! It's just plain rude. You wouldn't do that to someone in real life so why do it to someone online?
TL;DR -
Don't appear online when not online
Use BRB's and Bye's when leaving.

It would frequently change my status randomly after I set it, in the end I gave up setting my status at all.
If you use it in a simple, start skype, set status, leave skype, quit skype way, it probably works fine, but for me it didn't.
The auto-away feature I dislike strongly.
Sometimes I want to just quickly check something on my PC then leave.
I do not need nor want skype announcing that I am there by changing my status to online.
Yeah I agree about saying bye if you will be leaving for a time.
Although I live a somewhat always online life, I can sometimes be busy and my replies take hours.
I do generally try to make sure people know this is the case though.
Skype really is a bad thing for multiple devices, I had problems too when signing off and yet others still saw me as online, and Skype basically refuses to fix it according to all the forum posts. What I did was just set myself to appear offline and then sign off, it helped. But then that would get annoying if had to do it every time.. but then again what's a little annoyance to oneself when it would inform others the truth?
What you said about the auto-away makes sense, never thought about that. However I just meant the people who constantly 'pass out' so have no time to change to away/offline can use it.
As for last thing you said... if busy and replies may take hours, then I would say to set yourself to busy so others know they may not get a fast reply. Plus it stops annoying beeps if busy.
I usually only do that when I'm getting "ignored". Or I'm pissed off, which is often.
Either way, I like talking to you and Symbol, among others, and I wish that this problem would go away.
It won't, will it?
On top of that, Skype does not coordinate status well between multiple devices, whichever status it decides to use is a toss-up regardless of which was most recently set.
While this may mean people who use multiple devices have an excuse for not changing statuses when not on, but not for not saying brb/bye when leaving or saying "Sorry got called away" if a sudden need to go and have no time.
