Updates, furry writers?
tldr; moved to vancouver, bc, canada. Starting a fiction/fantasy writing course next week. Any furry writers to suggest?
---
I've moved to Canada (again!) for about half a year now, this time in Vancouver, BC. Work has kept me very busy - been pulling 60hr weeks for the last few months, and for the last stretch of the project gonna hit the 70hr barrier.
But I'll be done in a few weeks, hopefully it'll be quiet enough that I can visit Vancoufur! I've got my ticket, and arranged for time off, but as a workaholic, if I can't get my part done I'll probably just attend the weekends, and not thursday/friday.
Lately, I haven't been posting any music as I just can't seem to compose anything good. I thought, hey, perhaps I should try composing NOT using scores, and checked out composing apps, but I just can't get anything I feel is good. I was rather stressed out by this actually, it feels like all the effort and time I've spent has gone for naught. Oh well.
Which brings me to the other half of my subject. I randomly glossed through some Udemy courses on fiction writing, and I thought... that sounded interesting! Didn't buy the udemy course, but bought several books for my kindle. Stephen King's On Writing is particularly good and interesting, an interesting read about how one a bestselling author thinks, as well as his journey through his accident. I've also bought and read several "how to write a novel" type books.
It's very illuminating, and I should have done this earlier. It's given me a new way of reading books, and I'm re-reading some old books, and it's given me insight on why I like - or don't like - certain books.
It was around here I though that I'd like to attend a short novel writing course, and then came upon Gotham Writers, a writing institution in NYC that offers in-house and online courses. I mostly read scifi, and took up their scifi and fantasy writing course, starting next week. _should_ be interesting! I've also been writing short 2-300 word passages everyday to get the writing juices flowing. We'll see how things go!
Bhavfox has given me some suggestions for furry writers to follow. Offhand, I think most of my furry "books" are Kyell Gold's, I have an assortment of stuff from various authors show up but would love to hear if there are authors that deal with scifi or fantasy, less purely smut ;)
Oh. I'll be at Confuzzled this year, hopefully will be able to get some volunteering in. Still not yet planned exactly how I'm going to get there - will be visiting Dublin and Cardiff before heading up to Birmingham. Will probably finish this UK trip via way of london. Probably flying back via dublin again as it's cheaper? Well I'll see...

In my late teens I was published under another name, lots of enthusiasm and terrible gramma but my book sold in the US. Though I hit a bought of writers block (just started loathing the monster I created) I get red in the face about its raunchy content and am thankful only a couple of thousand sold.
But I too have finally pointed my attention back to pen and paper. Atm am booked solid making suits but would love to help and get some feedback when I start. Plot for book one, sub plot for book two, three, four and five already brewing lols.
Hugs you workaholic
You are exactly right! I just handed in my first assignment last week, and we had to keep it under 500 words if possible, or 750 as absolute max. I was having a hard time condensing down to just over 540 words as I had so much I wanted to write!
This week though, I can barely write anything for my assignment, and I have a bigger project to deliver 15 pages by the first week of march. ARRRGH!
If you ever want someone to look over your work (I'm not worthy!) I'd be up for it! Just let me know.
Have a good week ahead!
At the moment I'm trying to get my bsc hons in environmental science :) aaaaahhhh and its been an age since my last couse I'm going through the whole stepping up my writing for a scientific stand point, so far outside my comfort zone I'm just having to relearn that style of writing.
We both just have to find a copping strategy to relearn and adjust to the demands of writting to set word limits and deadlines lol.
Keep it up Gallen it'll come to you, change you scenery, read a book you love and find inspiring and rethink why has this plot not brought you the same results as last time. You will find a way round this hurdle and the words will flow again, trust me.
Oh wow, environmental science sounds rad! I did a quick google and it seems like a very big field. Do you have a specialization? And good luck with your writing! I had to do it as a student and it was never fun - unless it's a subject I loved :)
I'll keep hitting the block! Thanks for your support
As for my bsc hons I'm concentrating on biology and ecology, fingers crossed for a scientific career in conservation, though I would also love cellular research too. I went for a broad subject to allow me a certain level of freedom.
Writers block = writers indecision
Is this a set piece (writing a story to a set plot)?
If so you my wish to try to step back and write something you enjoy then re-approach when your in full flow. If not then you may just wish to start over, I know but starting again isn't failure it's rerouting around an obstruction but that can be rough. Good luck with it all. Hugs and hugs
Conservation? Is that like on the field determining animal populations? Or is it a segue to wildlife parks and zoos? No idea about cellular research - obviously not cellular phones :P - have to google!
Yeah, I'm supposed to just write about any plot I want, just need to submit about 15 pages. GAAAH. I really should have started the course like next month, where I'm sure I'll have time to do it. Defoe appreciate the advice! I think I'm definitely going to try to write on another idea. Time to pull out my writing prompts app :3
Cheers!
By conservation I mean ecosystem conservation, protecting landscaps and the biodiversity within from pollution and inappropriate development. As for cellular research there are a couple of projects atm that are studying the effects of pollutions, mostly flame retardents used in nearly every electronic device, on apex marine preditors. It is focusing on the long term cell damage and its effect on the population and biodiversity.
Looks like my Bsc has just been granted, I have just been told by the Open Uni that my course and student loan have been approved (never thought I would be happy about getting a student loan before)
Omg I did not know there where writing apps out there lol.
Hope the words are starting to flow and good luck with the work load.
I'm actually going to submit, for my big assignment, an extended version of one of the writing prompts I've worked on. Some stories, it's just so easy to flow, but some it's the proverbial brick wall! Hopefully this one will continue, as I've only got about 6 days left to write about 3.7k words!!! Aieeeee!
I went the hi-tech route and got a chromebook to write using google docs :3 My knuckles hurt when I write - reminds me when I was in uni writing long passages in exams, and how they ache >.>
I do miss London. Wish I could be back. I'll hope to catch you at CF next year, hopefully my writing would have improved slightly by then!

Will have to say I like to feel my knickles burn a little lol the while pain in art thing me thinks
Well I've updated my laptop this week got Microsoft on my laptop and iPad making my life a little easier.
Good luck with your writing course and your hectic work hours and hugs.
