The GFM is for a Police Force pinball machine made by Williams and the Kickstarter is for my own custom pinball machine called Fursona Land.

I remember FurNation! Tis the reason I am a jovial furry myself to this day, it was a major part of my childhood! ^ω^ Was real sad when I was revisiting my past one day only to find it was being put to rest. =o

When they changed hosts they enacted a "no porn" rule on all sites. It's been over ten years so I don't know if that's changed at all.

Oh goodness..... no porn would definitely hurt traffic!. I know lately its been kind of trendy I suppose for PR reasons to claim the fandom isnt about the porn, but... Theres numerous artists here who have absolutely god-like talents who do not do porn and only have a couple hundred watchers, its sad but I think that kind of points to the truth of the matter :)

I checked for new things on FurNation every chance I got!
I think I signed up and had an account, although I never posted anything since I don't draw.
FurNation was one of the main nuclei around which the furry fandom grew.

Thing is, no one really knows of that place anymore. I think it's time it ended.

The loss of any community, no matter how small, can be a blow to those who called it home.

Furnation is what got me to be a fur. Started when i was 19 ;3. I still remember some of the original furnation artists that now reside here.

Furnation was the Tail Underground's first and only home.. with it down, it is pretty much homeless.

I loved that flash site with the bar and naughty rooms and ghosts, was revolutionary for it's time.

Well and truely missed. I would love to see Furnation back up. With the Tail Underground.

I used the computer in my dads office ^_^.... so I would prop the door closed with a chair. Figured that would be easier to explain than if he walked in and saw what was on the screen :D

Usually our creaky floors provided me with an early warning system. However, one time the computer froze right when my dad came upstairs. I threw myself in front of the screen and said he couldn't look at the computer... because I was working on a Christmas present for him. In March. Like ya do. :|

Thats some good quick thinking! In the end my strategy was to just get a job at the age of 16 so I could buy a computer of my own and a lock for my door :) Also I would stuff a towel up against the modem so the dialup handshake sounds wouldnt wake up the whole house.

Furnation had a huge impact on the community, and not just IT services! They were one of the oldest furry publishers until their publishing wing was sold off to become Furplanet, which is still thriving!

Furnation was my introduction to the fandom too, after an internet search for "Lion King." Then I eventually got a site there myself, which led to my first friends in the fandom, then my first fur con, and the rest is history.

A search for "Dragonball Z" did it for me. I found something quite unexpected :)

I was first introduced into the furry community in 1993 when I discovered FurryMUCK. Good times.

Oh yeah, I remember that place well, there was quite a few artists I could only see their art on there. Their communities have moved onto other sites and there's plenty of other established places to post art so I don't know that it would really be a good thing to bring the site back.

I wouldn't bother. They already made a failed attempt to come back last year and flopped again not too long after I joined up.

You mean that awful scam site with the admin that kept throwing regular shitfits and shutting it down, then coming back and begging for money? The one that moved entirely to Second Life then got permabanned for stealing a huge amount of virtual currency? The one that was so bad it's what actually influenced furries to even make FurAffinity and other websites to get away from?

I dont know anything about all that, I would just hope anyone would do their own due diligence before donating.

FurNation has been around for 20 years now. It's the longest running Furry service next to VCL I think. Nexxus started the hosting server for me so I would have a free place to host my art and it has grown ever since. Before the DOS attack that finally took it down there were over 10,000 registered members.

Considering that Nexxus has been paying for the server hosting out of his own pocket for most of those 20 years, I think he can at least ask for donations to help get it back onto it's feet if furs want it. It seems that when it comes to much of the Furry fandom, many people want things for free or let others pay for things they benefit from then bitch when the people trying to help the community ask for some financial help to do so.

You said "Drama related to funds" which I was addressing. Also you compared the issues of FurNation to Dragoneer which is not a fair comparison. Nexxus used off the shelf software for his site, not spaghetti code that is years out of date and he uses actual hosted server sites where his hardware needs can grow as the site grows at a fraction of the cost of running FA the way Dragoneer did.

Furnation, like many sites.. had their time on the spot and then faded. Kinda hard to recover after some strong failures to restart (with more drama included).
Then, I havent touched Furnation (other than read news about them) in a long time.

Because Nexxus is a personal friend and I have seen the time and effort he has put into this service.

Since you have close relationship with him, can you clarify.. the drama was by people who hated him and wanted his service down? or just real issues with his service and management?
I would always like to see the two sides myself.

I don't know what other people's issues are. All I know is Nexxus created a site to help artists by providing free web hosting with unlimited storage. He then created a publishing company that allowed artists make more off their sales than other sites like Rabbit Valley and start making money with their first comic by utilizing print on demand instead of having to pay upfront for a huge print run. This was later sold to another party who is still running it. Like any new server bases system there were growing pains and many artists that were not paying a cent bitched and complained about the down time in it's earlier years. That is the only drama I know about.

There were reports of various people claiming that he (during the donations) misused the money for personal stuff rather than the hosting service. Thats the drama I heard a lot. (sounds pretty similar to Dragoneer, doesnt it?)

So if he has been hosting the server out of pocket for most of the 20 years (he gave me the numbers a while back and it was in the tens of thousands) and runs into some personal financial snags due to in part losing his job at one point. Yes I think he would be entitled to using some of the donations to help him get back onto his feet so he can still maintain the server. It's hard to do that when you are out in the street. Basically over the years Nexxus has more than paid back any money he may have used from the donations so this is a non issue.

Back when exploring Furry stuff was, like, literally exploration : o Bouncing between artist pages that are just in massive lists in alphabetical order, unsure of what sort of species or styles they had to offer...

Well... this was around 95, So it was an older 286 I stuck windows 3.1 on it, winsock and quarterdeck mosaic, it MAY have been a 386. Damn its hard to remember trying to picture whether it had an internal modem or one of those printer port dealies.

I do know we had the modem option on our Colecovision Adam WAAAY back in the early 80s, I dont even know what that thing could dial into.

I can't claim nerd-cred of having cut my teeth on such an old browser. Think I was IE/Netscape :d I was spoiled with graphical power compared to that browser :D

I do remember netscape chat hehe, That was so long ago the internet wasnt full of assholes yet, so it was actually a pleasant experience! :)

I'm sure in the future someone will create a theorm that proves the same percentage of assholes is always present in a given population-- and there is a parabolic curve that shows when a population is large enough that the assholes become observable.

I suspect its because the internet was new, its a very odd thing for a human being to be able to send an anonymous message out that millions of strangers can see, That kind of bizarre un natural situation is something I cant imagine we are very well equipped to deal with.
Probably took a few years for it to mess people up turning so many of us into weird disconnected sociopaths :)

The internet also allows people to find like minded people they wouldn't normally be able to find, which is often good but also creates horrible echo chambers where stupid ideas and group psychosis bounce back and forth and amplifies before being blasted out into the world thats left bewildered wondering where all this madness came from :D
