Gods and Goddesses(?) of FurAffinity/Furry Fandom.
This is an interesting and possibility unique topic that has been on my mind. Some furries or artists have characters/sonas/OCs that are called "Gods." The term can be loose or tight on definition, but the question comes out to who are they and why are they gods.
Take me for example, my fursona is dynamic since i see it as a representation of my personality as well as interests, so things change, one being the ability/title of being a God, the attribute being that of Darkness or Negativity. Eventually i decided that being a God isn't what truly represents me in the sense i am omni-powerful since i am not the kind to show power and more reserved, but keeping in mind the theme, i see myself more so as a Fallen Angel or even Demon, attribute still of darkness and negativity.
So this leads me to other furries and the like, as to why they are gods and for what purpose? I am open to the truth as well as opinions, it's just my curiosity as a sort of writer/creator that I do want to know.
If you have a character that can be called a God/Goddess, know of any or are one yourself, you are welcomed to comment as well as explain the history of being a God/Goddess and if powers are also attached with them.
Alright, so that's my journal for now, I'll be seeing you guys another time. Take care.

Shep is fairly young in a regard as he's just over 2 millenia in age, but he gained more power than what was foreseeable by the other Deity's and creators. He's pretty much in control of nearly everything and anyone in his realm.. You could serve your eternity without ever seeing him, or you could suffer his presence constantly. He's described as an all powerful being, but for true purpose of what he does. From vaporising someone on the spot, to disrupting the planet's convection currents, he's uniquely powerful and creative with said power. But I don't do the whole planet sized macro junk, no interest. At even 350ft, which is sorta maximum for me and him too, Shep is extraordinary powerful in more ways than I can probably list.
On the matter of a god, I'm sure there are cults that attempt to praise this overlord or others that come to respect him as a godly figure as such, but really he doesn't give a flying f#@* about being worshipped, or called a god or whatever, it'd be totally out of character for him to accept praise or worship at all infact.. He's not the character that'll sit on a throne of skulls expecting attention.. He's a lot more privative and feral, even, to act like such.
I suppose, in relation to your topic, Shep is an immortal Deity and overlord, that doesn't quite give a damn about titles, and surely won't be swooned by foolish mortals trying to get near him even. A god? Technically he is by what he does and where he belongs. Would I consider him a god by title, or even he himself a god by title? Nope! Is it alright for others to title him a god, rightfully yes, due to his circumstances..
Hope this sorta, shines some light on another's opinion! The God complex in characters is touch and go and I do understand why you've asked it. Some people just make overpowerful characters sometimes just to have the title of a god and get praise, personally I couldn't give a damn about that stuff haha :V
He's a mortal that cannot even use magic, he is on his own with nothing but his dragon abilities and his hammer.
And "god" sounds like a level of power, but it is also if someone worships you. You can be someone's god while remaining completly mortal and common. It all depends on the definition.
I wonder if "God of Darkness" (for example) means that the person is the greatest dark-magic user, if he is the creator of darkness itself or even something else?
Magitech is another concept all together, but it being tied in, it helps establish that point of what a "God" could be to one or another, in how the word is interpretted.
My main OC, Paldan for example, he exemplifies two things which are sort of connected (as one would hope, though I know gods/goddesses exist to show balance too). The first of these qualities is "Form", which is taken to mean essentially versatility. Seeing as how he is a slime being whose powers emphasis using change of matter (solid/liquid/gas/plasma), that is the main visually apparent proof of his god status in that he physically embodies the idea. Then, there is his personality. Drawing as far back as his origin story (which I won't get too into a tangent here), he was just a regular human youth who was considered a jack-of-all-trades type person. A master of none, yet still competent and interested in various things.
The second quality, endowment, honestly started as a sort of joke, but as his character has evolved in my mind over the years, I've come to see it more and more as a quality that has a deeper meaning to it as well. Honestly, there's no shortage of macro/hyper characters on FA, be they deities or not, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't completely understand the allure of having a character with pronounced physical and/or sexual traits related to size, but I have come to want more than to just have endowment mean possessing big physical attributes. For Paldan, it's become an idea that means not only possessing a quality that you find widely worthwhile or worth celebrating, but also finding that no matter who you are. To be honest, despite his title "god of endowment" there are characters within the fictional universe that Paldan comes from that are bigger, stronger, or more attractive than him. However, his version of endowment isn't meant to be synonymous with the best out of what everyone considers attractive; it's meant to mean the best you that you can be.
I guess it all just comes back into what you said about your character being largely representative of your personality. A lot of what Paldan is about connects into how I feel on such qualities; chiefly because they're qualities that I feel I possess. Paldan is an exemplar of "form" and "endowment", but he's also a way for me to express and celebrate qualities that I truly find appealing within myself. I mean, I was born wired the way I am and liking the things I like, and instead of just wallowing in things that I think I lack, I could instead appreciate the things I have; in essence become a "god", free of shame and insecurity, and truly just become happy with the hand I've been delt.
Sorry to get so deep. ^^'
In regards to the second quality, i would agree with you on how there are several heavily endowed characters, they be deities or not, and sometimes they being that is just an ego stroke than practice, as I've discussed with a few other friends of mine, and the title of being a God/Goddess of Fertility is often a large group if you were to look into their backgrounds, but all-in-all each creator to their own images.
And I'm glad to hear that your personalities do affect how a character is created, since to me it shows a lot of care and consideration when making them and what you wish to have.
Funny enough, the more and more Paldan's legit story progresses, the less and less it feels like his character would actually care about his status as a god. He becomes legitimately more concerned with being a good leader to his race (the nexians) and setting a good example for them and his descendants rather than basking in their worship or things like that. I'd also say that his wife, Lillias, has had a positive impact on his character as well. Their relationship was so full of pitfalls early on, it really tested his "god of Form" title to its limits and made him more patient and giving.
In the end, whether god, king, or lord it feels like a significant figure-character is made by how their people react to them and then even more so by how they in turn are affected by that reaction. Sure, it's no fun for more titillating prose, but it's an entirely different kind of fun for character development. XD
I like to write and I love macro/micro scenes. I don't have a specific cannon or anything but I've definitely got some characters that were designed as gods and deities and have the abilities one would expect. Other characters of mine act like gods and goddesses or are named so either through demanding it or through their stature and actions being attributed in that way.
Personally, I find it much more fun to have characters become what we as mere mortals perceive to be god-like rather than actually being gods. If a character starts out a god then the power and freedom that comes with it is nothing new and is somewhat boring. Mortals, in my view, tend to be vastly more interesting. Characters with flaws and weaknesses and personalities as opposed to their only trait being tied to divine status. I'd much rather write about a giant claiming to be a god and demanding worship than write about the day to day activities of a creator who is so massive they cannot be comprehended or interact meaningfully with the world.
The role of gods in my stories involve the view that the entirety of creation is less significant than an atom to them. Why would an all powerful divinity cares what happens at all when they can reset reality with a snap of their fingers? Thus they take on the role of simple observers, watching the interactions of their creations through an avatar they created as a scientist watches things through a microscope and very occasionally dropping into those worlds to have some fun.
Anyway, think I've rambled enough now. If you want to chat further feel free to send a note my way. ^_^
In my own views, if they they were mortal and did become macro, there would be a chance they would realize how easy it is to rule over others, but how easy it is to lose them as well. It's a theme some view, some don't, that even if they are the larger, stronger being that they are still considered part of the world and they still have a responsibiliy.
Roles of a God as just the creator and nothing more, yes i can agree with there as that is a belief as well in the common world.
My OC Jerrod is the God of existence but that does not mean that he can just snap entire galaxies are universe is into existence... Despite the fact that literally what it sounds like he should be able to do,
Is a bit hard to explain...
Gods are necessary but they're not necessary at the same time: an aspect of reality can exist in my universe without a God being present but at the same time, if one does exist let's say for the future then things start running smoother, a guy can basically manage and support that aspect but he or she is not necessary for that aspect of reality to exist
Become a god in my story is not all that complicated, in fact is that she kinda obvious all you simply have to do is just do something exceptionally important in your life that pertains to a certain trait of reality or kill 1, or have these powers gifted to you by 1
Also deities and gods are two totally different things in my story but I think I've already chatted your ear off enough
Sorry if this sounds a little bit confused I never really talked about the god aspect of my story before but it was really interesting to try
