Art programs?
9 years ago
Eat the words! EAT THEM! I don't care if it's not physically possible.
So, I've got a Surface Pro 4 on the way, and one of the main things I'm going to be using it for is to start doing digital art. It's got pressure sensitivity and everything. Very neat bit of tech.
Anyway, my main question is, what would be a good program to start with? I'd like PS, but I really can't justify spending that kind of money, particularly considering my current lack of skill/practice, and the fact that I don't make money from arting. So, in lieu of that, what's a relatively cheapish program, that doesn't have too many bells and whistles? I'd rather not get overwhelmed with crazy functions right off the bat. ^^;

paint.net - basic photoshop clone
the gimp - full featured photoshop clone
firealpaca - basic painting software
krita - full featured painting software
I'd go with firealpaca or krita depending on where you want to start on the features/complexity scale. Stay away from the photoshop clones for now. Just like photoshop they are image editors with painting capabilities, and thus way harder to get good looking art out of.
