That thing looks like some sort of transmitter. Maybe it is a new Pokéwalker of sorts. You know, there also exist those wrsitbands people use for doing sports and such.

that's an accessory that runs the app when you aren't and looks for position and web to look if someone is battling you or if there is any wild pokemon around you, than notice you about that :P

probably it will be something like "freemium" model... that is, you can actually buy items for ingame value, doing quests, battling others... but you could also buy for real money if you want...

the most important would be that there aren't items or things that make an advantage and you can take them only for real money, that will become "pay for win" and i don't think nintendo and google go for it
