As I lay in bed with pink eye, the medication in my eyes temporarly blinding me for about 15 minutes, I sat and thought to myself. What if I ever went blind. I have horrible eyesight as it is, and it's only get worst. I sat and thought, if I were to go blind, what would I do with myself. That would cut off my gift for drawing, and it would cut off my "hopeful" source of income. The idea kinda scared me, but it made me think too. I wanna learn how to play the piano. If I couldn't perform for the eyes, I'd wanna perform for the ears instead.
I think this all stemmed for an episode of M*A*S*H. Hawkeye was trying to fix a broken gas-powered space heater for the nurses tent when a small explosion took out his eyes. He had to adjust to being blind and as he struggled to survive without once sense, he learned to "see without seeing" using all his other sinces. He even managed to save a boys life in the OR because he could smell a hint of bowel when the other doctors couldn't, catching a small nick on his intestine. In the end, he recovered his sight, but he was able to see so much more after this experience. It's just amazing to see him stumbling around the recovery room, doing whatever it took to continue doing what he felt so passionately about, even when he couldn't do it in the same way that he was used to.
Funny how one can pull so much from a TV Land special.
What about you, what is your talent and if you lost the ability to do it, what would you do? Hawkeye asked his doctor if he would get to keep his nickname. Instead of giving it up, he found a new way to hold on to it. How would you keep your nickname?

As for my nickname...well, the one I use most often now is "Pleasantly Psychotic". I didn't pick it out, it was given to me. Long story. Anyway...if I were to go deaf, I think I'd just lose the "Pleasantly" part, 'cause I have a feeling that I'd end up making everyone else around me miserable because I'd be too miserable myself to even notice. X3
And the nickname question was a food for thought question, not really for answering XP
