Journal Start
We've made a large update to the FA Beta UI, and will be making additional changes over the week (including new themes).
If you're not using the Beta, you can switch to it by going to the following:
My FA > Account Management > Account Settings
Select the Beta, and take the Default Template (Dark). We're working on fixing up some issues with additional themes (Light, Retro, etc) and will have them updated by Friday. If you encounter any issues or if you have suggestions or feedback you can leave a response on this journal or open a ticket for Interface Issues.
And on that note: the Beta banner was switch to a temporary placeholder (a Winter-themed banner). While technically it IS still Winter, the banner will only be up for a few days.
Known Issues:
1) Stats link missing Fixed.
2) Banner too large - Reviewing
3) Tablets load the mobile version - Reviewing
4) Font-size too large - Reviewing
5) Thumbnails not working - Problem found, fix coming next update

But yet when I did it on the last journal it was removed.
Coincidentally bitching about that this morning. It looks great!
Can we please have a detailed list of changes? Or am I just blind and didn't notice a link somewhere?
2) High res content
Also, would be great if comment threads where fixed. Or adding an @(username) feature to the top of the reply.
Good update :3
http://puu.sh/nsEKh/8529c976d0.jpg
(This just in: fA is the new anger management)
Thanks for fixing that!
Really? Some programmers you got here. Not to be mean or anything, but please fix this.
I kind of like the look of the hashes.
But, it could be easily overlooked if someone was skimming through comments.
Not realizing its an admin. Or for those with some color blind issues.
Ordinarily users fill out the info section and it's not too long in length, however, some users have an extraordinarily long info section and it does take a lot of scrolling (even on mobile devices) to get past it.
Might be nice to include a small toggle somewhere which helps minimize it to enable the visiting user to get direct to the content they might want to see on another users profile?
That circled image is an animated GIF submission which I uploaded a custom thumbnail for during the submission process. (just a 300x300 image with "Animated GIF" text on it)
The new theme seems to have deleted all previously uploaded custom thumbnails for submissions. Only the FA assigned standard thumbnails are working.
I do like this banner though.
so i keep thinking "Furaffinity as fuck" XD
However you declined to comment on the last part of my original comment , also since you did reply to me at all... a while ago on twitter two times I asked about an interview and you never replied back I'm still interested in snagging an interview from you if you have time. And if you can respond to the later part of my first comment would be really nice!
And i wish i could swap between the beta/classic banner :|
yay, i've always wanted to block myself!
brb, gonna go block myself before this is patched
But i cant zoom out anymore
All i can choose is submissions and journals aswell...:/
Either way, thanks for moving the block button on both interfaces.
also recommendation, the favorite on the beta are in a very weird spot, making it seem like what the artist favs is also their art
you may want to move that around idk, but having it right under the users submissions is weird
Now if FA had a collection system like weasyl, and those were displayed under the gallery, that would be perfect <3
I think, considering the journal on the profile has a "Read More" button already, maybe also put a limit on how much of the journal is shown while on the profile? Like maybe 5 lines of text are visible and it trails off with a "Read More" button. This is moreso considering lengthy journals, because they end up stretching the page unnecessarily.
So why not consider some kind of check box for people to decide on whether their journals get's shortened on the profile or not? Then those who want it as source of information can keep using it like that, and others you might write con reports or alike and don't want the length of their profile to be 3 times as much could shorten it. :3
It gave me a 404, so I refreshed the page.
I've been noticing that the site resolution size don't fit my computer anymore. It does this on my other devices too, and it never done this before. I now have to scroll sideways to see everything. Is that gonna be fixed too? I'd be happy if that could as well!
Cool new layout! It seems more professional. c:
I prefer the size of it in the default FurAffinity page.
Now it's trying to eat my entire screen! Send help!
So it's been a long time since I've looked at the Beta.
On the 'Browse' menu. Has it always been split 50/50 like this.
Where half the search options are on the left while the gallery of the dreaded front page is on the right?
Feel like it should be 15/85 if you do it that way. Make it look a little classier.
Gotta say though, like the color scheme more with Beta than Default.
Even if the text is like someone cranked it up to 20 instead of 12 and bolded everything to hell and back.
3/5!
Thanks for letting me know.
Thumbs up.
The banner has swallowed you whole.
Damned sites these days. What are the youngins using these days anyway.
Then again, you gotta pay for more settings and such on deviantart. Screw that.
(I'm not very active here much any more pfffffttttt)
I don't need to be harassed on a daily basis by hooligans for my choice in coffee.
WW3 on my dashboard all day everyday.
Sip your non alcoholic beverage while you watch the intoxicated children yell at each other.
Want to know a neat secret?
They are so drunk they don't realize they are yelling at a plastic fruit bowl on the table.
Also it made my day. XD
This is the part of tumblr I can get behind.
I'm on a droid with a 10 inch screen. FA would only show me 3 inches of page blown up to fill the whole screen. It becomes incredibly awkward to navigate, to the point of being very nearly unusable.
Do not want!
Seeing this journal, I turned off beta, which helped somewhat. Please o please let leaving beta off continue to be possible in the future.
I want to keep using the site, but I cannot afford a "real" computer...
I emphasize screen size because it is a major difference between this device and the standard smartphones most sites assume all mobile users are working with.
FA as it was before worked great for me. I could submit art and comment and browse to my heart's content with no trouble whatsoever. Easy, and carefree! I didn't even notice the interface. I just did what I wanted and didn't have to think twice.
Talk of 'improvements' on something that works great creates worry that the "works great" part will be the firsf thing thrown out the window in the name of progress. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to have faith lol
Edit: Oh, and for the love of god make links recognizable. having them look exactly the same as normal text is just hilariously stupid.
*Z snap*
I'm not sure if I should frown at you or give you a silent applause.
Still waiting for my filter to hide "art" from filthy "people" I hate from my browsing pages though.

And maybe too wide. It's just squished, I think.
I have noticed the change quite largely as everything has become bigger on my tablet i'm using. Might help if there's a option to revert back to a previous version of the beta theme.
Other than that, keep up the good work! Looking forward to future updates :)
has been moved back above the user information. ^_^ I missed that. I also like
the tiny me at the top of the page, and that Journal header/footers are back.
I miss the Navigation within the control pannel, though.
You left the Easy Access to other control panel pages on the Avatar section,
but I certainly do really miss it on the other control panel sections. It was easy to navigate.
The Reverse select/select all/ remove selected/ Nuke buttons seem
a little distant to each other. It's a tad frustrating to have to woosh
my whole hand across the screen to each of their buttons. But only like 3% frustrating.
It slows my select/remove process down by like a millisecond. XD
and its not centered... It's kinda... on the left but not left aligned. It looks silly.
I can't remove shouts
blocking doesn't seem to work (and I can block myself?)
text boxes don't show when and where I'm typing
Using google chrome, windows 10.
the text issue fixed itself though
Also, I support the comments about putting the menus back on top of the header image. Them being below is hugely unintuitive.
I am going back to normal format. Or is there a way I can change how the old beta was?
What happens if I find some un-savory person that I've never talked to or had any type of interaction with at all, that draws and/or posts a fetish that I really really hate? How can I preemptively block them to show them how nasty and horrible a person they are!? D=
Also, the beta is looking rather nice atm. Not a fan of how that upper bar follows me down the page though....its like its stalking me, judging what kind of porn I'm looking at.... tis creepy... =C
Seriously though, where is the block button? I've looked all over and can't seem to find it. (and yes, I am looking at another users page, still not there. And no, I'm not going to block them. =P )
NEVER MIND! I'm just blind lol =P
[EDIT] Also! REALLY like the new nuke submissions button. =P
We get horizontal scrollbars due to the floating navigation otherwise.
Edit: Huh, it's a box shadow. Manually disabled it, honestly looks better without to me - but that's my opinion I guess. :p
Me like.
I was waffling between using the classic and finally switching to Beta, looks like I'm with Beta for now!
Edit: oh my god is that a freaking "Select Stream" button? I CAN NUKE THOSE NOW?!?!?!?!
BEST FEATURE 2016
And here's the same page, only stretched out a little bit longer: https://db.tt/LS1bPn8Y
My monitor is huge, resolution is set to 2560 x 1600, so that might be why I'm able to resize it larger than your monitor can show.
Overall, there'd have to be heavy functionality improvements before I use it, such as infinite scrolling on browse/search (or a way to advance page results with a keyboard button), proper siteside tagging/filtering options, and the ability to browse submissions with specific types of images filtered out entirely, for example turning off all photo submissions as is possible when searching.
as a visually impaired person, it is really frustrating having to constantly zoom in on everything by 100x to be able to read, it's nice that for once the font is more read-able, please consider this when reviewing that complaint from people who have never had to deal with this issue.
Every time I check out the beta, I end up having to switch back to the classic interface, just so I can read things easily without a horizontal scroll bar or clipped text. Even the picture names on gallery pages are missing the bottom half of the letters in the beta. That makes them all but impossible to read. The classic interface works almost perfectly for everything, is fairly uncluttered, and everything is places about as good as it gets for an art site. Ideally, one of the options for the beta should be an exact look and feel theme of the classic site, hopefully with the light background. My eye condition makes reading on the dark background very difficult.
Sadly, if the perfectly working classic theme is even dropped, and the beta isn't made compatible with those with low vision, I'd be forced to leave one of my favorite sites. I keep all of my stuff duplicated on Inkbunny, in case that ever happens, but I really would prefer to keep using both sites. Please keep accessibility for visual and other disabilities in mind while working on the new code, and thanks for all the work you are doing to keep this site running.
.sitebanner {
height: 245px;
margin-bottom: -45px;
}
I look forward to seeing more progression. :>
the header image
it would look better underneath the thin navigation bar.
it's second nature to go to the very top of the page to navigate the website and the header image messes it up.
other than that, everything i've seen so far looks good.
Sadly, the Beta breaks the FurAffinity Filter. So I'll be sticking with Classic...
Ne, why can't we have our own filter like that? There are a few things that I just don't want to see, period (ie Diapers, Watersports, etc). I'd love an in-site filter like what the .booru's use, where you can put in keywords that will show up in descriptions and titles, and it'll filter it out.
I think lots of people would like that. It helps me to filter out all the stream notifications. :P
I know some people also hate seeing YCHs, so they could just filter that out and be happy. :D
If I click on it to view the larger size, I can't scroll to the side to look at the picture.
and the new banner <33
I'm not seeing the big deal with the Beta theme. It seems like it is harder to use, more confusing and cluttered compared to the Classic mode. Am I missing something here?
And what about "Silver Eagle"? Should be using his version of FA, it's much better.
Okay, so, I have a suggestion, and one that we really need.
A NEW COMMENT SYSTEM.
Now please, bear with me. I really want to see a thread where anytime someone replies to anyone in the comment thread, you get the comment alert. You, of course, get to turn off of the notifications if you no longer want them. However, it would be so freaking awesome to get a notification if whenever someone outbid someone on an auction, I got an automatic alert instead of having to keep checking back in. This would also get rid of people talking crap about another person within the same thread-Everybody gets a notification.
I would also like a thumbs-up comment option too, but with the amount of attention whores on here, I can only see that going badly.
Is there anyone we can see a comment system like that happening?
I can't find anywhere we are able to submit it
as always, im gonna be looking for graphical bugs (for some reason i find this fun lol)
one that i found, and im pretty sure this carried over from the last beta update, is an issue with with really short pages cutting off the control panel tab.
for example on this page here: http://www.furaffinity.net/help
if you hover over the control panel tab, it'll be cut off, forcing you to go to another page in order to access all options in the control panel. before this update you were at least able to use a small scroll bar on the control panel box. neither option is good, but you know how it goes.
(this ones just an example as this also happens on the "you are now watching/unwatching" pages and on the "you are now blocking" pages)
not a big issue at all, just thought i'd point it out just in case its gone un-noticed :3
When the "Minigallery" option is selected in my settings, no older or newer images appear, and the option to look at the gallery is gone. All I'm seeing atm is "Add to favorites" "Download" "Note [insert username]". When using the "Prev/Next links" option from the settings, those three links are available along with "Go to Main Gallery" or "Go to Scraps" , but there isn't an option to go to older and newer images via "Previous" and "Next" buttons because they're not there for me. Will this be changed later on?
http://snag.gy/C83YW.jpg
You broke your site :V
FA is amazing at breaking something everytime they fix something else xD
Also I really like being able to see when the submission was made without opening all of them which was removed with the beta it looks like? I don't like watching artists that post once a year and having to check and open every image to see how active they are is really annoying.
Love how the profile picture was moved too
This is looking much better
i kinda miss the profile image being at the top too, but i understand completely why it was moved. i wish there was a better compromise for that
I liked the location of profile image before on Beta.
The buttons on the New Submissions are hard to see they need a box around them like before.
Figured i would let you know from my end.
Also, I think it is a little to blocky and or bold. I like that the stroke for the tables are soft and small, that way it doesn't distract people.
Idk, I complained about this months ago, but it just feels so cluttered.
it works on my iphone but it keeps it zoomed in, i cant zoom out or in at all, is that the same issue your having?
Also on my android FA runs ok but on safari the page is zoomed in
The Select/Nuke options are hard to make out against the submission titles. Having some sort of visual break between the two sections (color variation, button boxes, a line break, etc) would really help make them more distinguishable.
ALSO SO MUCH BETTER WITH ID MOVE OH MAN! :D the buttons for going through submissions and buttons in general are also awesome!
I'm anxious for a new noting system, soon hopefully. It's basically the same box in a new wrapper every update, and frankly the note system is confusing and all over the place. I'm sure you guys hear it all the time. So, sorry I'm bringing it up again!
It'd would be nice if everything stayed in one thread though, instead of creating a new one every time there is a reply. I know my inbox would stay a lot more tidy and organized if it did.
BUT, all in all. Glad to see things moving forward.
https://i.gyazo.com/a1c2484c3c6e05a.....1fd482a1c5.png
technically the buttons DO stretch the entire way, but since they arent outlined, it just turns into a lot of negative space. it seems kind of unnecessary for the buttons to scale with the screen anyway o:
1: Will there be a theme akin to "old" FA or continued support for the UI? (I'm really A crotchety old fart about this, I like my UI, does the job without too many frills or bells and whistles)
2: Will FA code honor requests from mobile devices to show the Desktop Page instead of the mobile view? (again, crotchety old fart)
I'm happy that progress is being made, I just really want my questions addressed. I've been asking for an long time, and I don't wanna have to go make a trouble ticket about something silly like this!
Cheers!
Other than that, I really like the more streamlined, "flat" look it has. Can't wait to see the different themes when they are released.
Other than that I like what you're doing :)
- In order to go to your inbox, you need to hover over the actual text showing how many submissions/comments/etc you have. They really should be full buttons that fill the height of the banner, just like Browse and Upload and every other button there.
- I'm no longer seeing ads on the site. As far as I can tell, none of my extensions are blocking them, though that would also be weird since I always saw them before.
Also is beta ever gonna get the emojis?
while it looks very nice & easier read stuff, the only thing that bugs me so much is, how the 1-column view with almost full-screen width in profile page (only 20px padding for each side) creates a huge empty / negative space in most profiles, mostly in HD screen.. it would be great to see the profile information uses 2-column view just like how statistic & featured journal below.. so much waste that could be more utilized imo..
i also think that the left column (statistic etc etc) could use dynamic size / adaptive width (percentage value) rather than using fixed 400px, the bigger your screen, the more negative space in the comment & journal section.. which its kinda waste as well
for gallery column, i'd really like the gallery uses double rows, and so the favorite, it would really great to make the height of the container more balanced with other columns (and hey, its great for artist's showcase)
and last thing that are very fatal (as in my end, using small screen in my netbook), is the control panel hover takes too much height, i can't navigate menus under 'browse label' unless i scroll down..
could uses the old nested list imo.. C:
I have noticed that the comments on submissions are incredibly long in mobile beta, especially this journal, and takes nearly forever to scroll to the bottom with my Galaxy Tab A. Also i cannot seem to get onto the desktop beta layout on this tablet using samsung's standard browser, even if i were to toggle the desktop view option in the browser it is still on mobile view.
I hope this feedback helps and i can see how mobile beta is simplier for phone users.
Doing very well Dragoneer!
You moved the profile submission picture next to the journal....uh.... please put it back. I know beta had some issues with the text overlapping the picture, but then cant you give its own space as well? Profile info is a lot more well...about me and journals vary, so it doesn't really make much sense.
Thank you for fixing the stats link. It's kinda important for... "research" and I found it funny how a few hours after I switched to classic to get the link, this comes out.
I rate this update 4/10, major points lost for having the site melt this morning, but slow progress is still progress. Yay
I feel very unnatural and lost while using beta(switching back right after posting this comment), but for the sake of being able to tell what I dislike most:
first of all I really have a very strong feeling majority of changes is made just for the sake of being different: things that were to the right now are to the left (journals vs links to other journal entries), etc. kind of stuff mostly.
First, the profile page:
profile info feels VERY wiiiiiide, way too wide for me, it makes me feel lost just as much as overcrowded stuff
I've seen quite a few users making tha info list longer (that's how I got the idea of doing this pto out page too), now it doesn't work... it looks horrible
etc. jut see the screens with comments: http://sta.sh/0212boofnevc
Also the gallery on the profile... favs and gallery blend togheter, you feel all thumbnails are for the gallery not half from gallery and half from favs... a very bad thing to get confused with...
Also in the non-beta view, our featured submission works just perfect, while in beta... loads of blank space:( Also, I don't feel it's like a 'featured submission', it feels more like 'newest' submisson to me... (if it could be at least moved around...?)
The profile description area being soooooo wide now, why not moving the profile submission to it instead?
and more...
screen with comments: http://sta.sh/02e8rki4g3lv
And where are the emotes now (that handy list you could get by clicking a button near the comment field)? Memorising stuff like emote codes sucks and finding out what the codes are if you're new to the site sucks even more^^;
And do you plan to fix the image transparency? Now there are to be so many themes available, I can't just go and fill the bg with the bg color of the more popular theme out of 2 (and now it even changed http://sta.sh/08vjnp5nm26), and transparency that changes into black or white is just horrible^^;
Now transparency is the horrible black: http://sta.sh/011xyr40g27f (and it's like this on the submission page, should be transparent both in the thumbnails and submission pages)
Keywords: They look horrible highlighted so much and on the way between the submission and comments... I'd 1st of all make them not highlighted with any color or frame, and would move them back somewhere to the side. Normally you rather care about the keywords to find the artwork not to see what keywords there are for the already found artwork unless you want to report it or sth.
same with the entire like with the category, resulution etc.... please, more them back from the way^^;
Really, now the submitter(smaller avatar? why?:() and description seem simply not there, they draw little to no attention, while I strongly believe it should be vice versa (this is where you can see if the submission is the original or just a resubmission). I don't say they're not highlighted at all, you've made different shades of grey but with, especially those orange boxes with keywords, those main areas simply disappear.
In general the submission page seems to be different only for the sake of being different.
Also if you view a profile of sb who didn't set any submission their featured and/or profile submission, you see the unly blankness there... just the heading but nothing... Ugly. Could it be changed back to simply no heading like it was in the old layout? or maybe at least the featured submission could be automatically filled in with the newest submission automatically?
And could it be possible to see 'all messages(except submissions)' in one page too again, please?
I hope we can use the old layout after the beta is out of beta and made official? I'd also prefer to be able to make other users see our profile page (just the profile page to not force too much) in the style and color WE choose them to see our profile in. This would not only solve such trivial things like 'featured submission' having loads of blank space but also font colors used in profiles (you could ofthen see users having disclaimers in their profiles saying it's best to view their page with X theme)
Could you consider:
adding folders to favs too
and
to make it possible to include image thumbnails/miniatures in journals, profiles etc. (see: deviantart and people being able to make art features in jounrals, to decorate their profiles with some thumbnails or to add&highlight a few significant submissions, to credit original submissions on resubmissions more visibly by adding the thumbnail to the original instead of the link that blends in etc.)
and btw why on earth the number of comments a user posted is highlighted above each single comment one makes around the site?:( (rest of links here are cool though) why not replacing this with the commission info link? It's just, um... really, why this should be so important to see how many comments one made when reading every single one of their comments? xD
I really like it so far. It feels familiar and I don't get lost. My only beef is the favorites kind of blend in with the artists gallery. That's my only actual complaint if you could call it that.
Being referred to as "Other" makes me feel inferior. :(
Is this normal? Or a bug from this update? Either way, please leave it that way.
FA, can or could you please add 'Species: Dinosaurs (Other)'and 'Plant (Other)' to the list of species?
The reason I ask this is because I have a dinosaur related species and some of them I have no idea what or where they fit in, 'Sauropod' 'Theropod' I don't know what's the different between them both? I have some plant related characters and I know others have that as well but I can't find plant something at the species sadly :(
I also have something I'm wondering. On 'Theme' there is 'Animal related (none-anthro)' and 'Human' but... no Anthro, or 'Animal related (anthro)' there? I can never get the right 'Theme' for my anthro characters, even if they are animal 'Animal related' but still anthro.
Also would it be alright to ask for a 'Preview button' for comments or journals maybe?
Animal-related, as I understand are real-life animals as we see them, without anthro/fantasy elements in them. Anthro art should go to Fantasy or All category... lol at least that's how I submit.
Agreed on the dinosaur category, it should be extended to at least "Other prehistoric" or something (Sauropods are mostly quadruped herbivores like Brachiosaurus; Theropods are bipedal carnivores like T-rex or Velociraptor). Where am I supposed to submit all of the Pterosauria, for example? Currently nothing else than "Reptilian - other" comes to my mind.
I'd leave the plants "unspecified/any" as nothing else seems to match. Or Exotic - other if your character is not based on a real-life species.
Can we please keep it?! It's beautiful!!
It's nice to have a change in banner, it's been a long time for us beta users ;;
also the menu bar looks too thick, could do with a more trimmed slimmer minimalistic look. The outbounding boxes for buttons looks weird being bigger than the actual button itself also.
But so far I am LOVING these new updates! Of course you guys are fixing as you go so I'm expecting things t fudge up hard ever now and then but the work has been coming a long great!
Things that'd be cool to see:
> Folders able to have icons / image
> Have it when images go into Folders it can be "un-seen" from main-gallery
> Featured Gallery preview instead of full gallery preview
> Being able to NOT see Favorites, Watch, and Shout notifications
> Being able to disable Shouts on main page
Those are what i'd love to see <3
Though personally I wouldn't mind the change on the list, it's just a list after all, if it's well organized and contains all categories I need to stuff my art in, then I'm fine with it. xD
and yes I happy to be born into christian family :) but the simple fact is, I hate monkeys and being seen as one grosses me out lol :P
It's only matter of opinion and that is what this forum is for :)
Bye bye :)
under species. I wouldn't be against such a change.
Another that been brought up countless time by others and me. Pages for journals in tablet or mobile mode. It's so slow making a comment like this one, ten minutes more longer I will add.
Bouncy bouncy dances to the music
I'll be at the movies!
Let's imagine that Artist-X does an illustration for Customer-Y... X posts it first, and usually, a few minutes later Y posts it too. Now we have twice the art showing up.
Wouldn't it be possible for example to have another category next to "Gallery", "Scraps", "Favorites", called "Commissioned Art" that would automatically update whenever X updates something for Y ?
Whenever X submits a piece, they could have the option to submit it as a "Commission/Giftart", which would open another field to add Y's username(s), and voilΓ .
That would improve so many things : there wouldn't be two copies of the same art floating around (less server load... I guess ?); each party would have their work featured properly; it would be very easy for anyone, and would also solve some copyright issues; and finally, random users wouldn't get confused anymore whenever they'd find someone's gallery and love the hell out of it, only to realize that Y wasn't the artist in the first place... how many times has this happened to of us, eh ? That's super awkward !
Just my 2 cents... which again, surely doesn't fit in the UI talk here as it would probably require a lot of rework. Just thought it may be an interesting feature to consider for the future. Sorry for being out of place ^^;
1. If the artist isn't on FA... I know a site (y!G, to not name it) that simply forbids submissions when the artist isn't a registered user; and I always had conflicting thoughts about that. I understand their reasoning, and as a "content creator" myself, I'm kinda supportive to it; but I also totally understand the frustration it generates, cause as an avid commissions collector, it's annoying when there's no way to gather it all in one place.
Soooo... if the artist isn't a registered user (or doesn't submit it in his own gallery for whatever reason), I'd still allow clients to post the art they commissioned, but try to invite them to post it under that new "Commissions" category, to separate it from the actual gallery which would be dedicated to art they actively produced. And to credit the artist, I'd only request to post name and eventually a link to the homepage.
2. & 4. To keep it simple, yeah, commissioned art would automatically be added to Y's commission/gift/fan art category. If the art is already posted, why not link it ? After that, Y could still decide to keep that reference on their profile or not, or simply have a feature to hide it.
But nope, no approval required.
3. Notifications would be a nice feature, sure. Who wouldn't enjoy a note saying "YOU HAVE ONE NEW GIFT/COMMISSION". That would be like christmas ! XD
This also made me consider further eventual issues...
β’ What would happen if the artist X erased the commissioned art ? Should this also remove it from Y's profile ? Again, I have conflicting thoughts. As an artist, I can understand how easy it can be to hate "old" art, and to want it wiped out from existence... but as a customer -that paid money for that art-, I'd like to have a voice regarding such a decision too. The good old "it's your art, but it's my character" dilemma.
To solve this, perhaps yeah, again, a "hide" feature would be interesting.
And if the artist decides to close the account altogether... hmm... perhaps "simply" shift the ownership of the "file" to the client ? It could behave like tags perhaps ? Remove one, the other is still active.
β’ Only the artist could write a description... ego-wars incoming ! XD
Ha ha, I make it sound so easy XD I can't even imagine the amount of crazy work it would require X0x But then, on the other hand, I've often been wondering if it wouldn't be possible to use the tags to that purpose ? Since a few days, a friend and I are having a fun art exchange, and we're both using similar tags for that purpose (Example that shows both their and my submissions together. Maybe it could be possible to push that concept a bit further and to add a few extra fields during the submission process... a mixture of "Client", "Character name", for example. Tags are an awesome feature, maybe they could be implemented a bit deeper in the site ?
But as I said, that's just my 2 cents (and too much free time, I know XD). It's easy to change the world in our minds, but it doesn't mean that such change can or shall be done -0-
At this point, I'm just immensely glad that you took the time to read and even reply to my suggestion. That's amazing ! THANK YOU for that ^^
I'm really liking this update, thank you! I've noticed text looks a bit wonky on my phone though, and sometimes not all of it shows up (the bottom or sides of drawing descriptions is cut off, for example) ^^
>.-.> :v Although the user configuration page needs an update.
and some functions, because the current page is only possible to view the latest notifications, the old ones were inaccessible zones until turns off some recent <.-.< :1
It would be good to review it Lol ^.-.^ :P
as such with the aforementioned, please enjoy my new icon that's no way pointing a finger towards any staff member, I don't need "consent" to use it as I have made it and isn't a reference to any staff member's copyrighted tv cartoon character clusterfucktoboggin
case in point is here~ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19254076/
they stop being an endless line and then start to get all mashed together.
One more thing I forgot to mention, I can't upload on the new mobile theme because my screen won't show the finalize button, and I can't scroll to it. I'm using an iPhone 5S on Safari(iOS 9.2.1) and the same problem is on my iPad Mini also on Safari (iOS 9.2.1)
Just thought I'd let you guys know!
I did enjoy the previous beta version, though. I had gotten used to it. But this new one does not have the right feel.
If they are those that decked out their page you are unable to see it all for its off screen.
It makes the Profile Galleries Look nice!!!! Thank you, it really helps out with Wide Images a lot!
Thank you.
Would be an awesome option
Pages such Deviantart and Inkbunny has that option included so now I'm wondering why FurAffinity, one of the most important websites of the furry fandom can't do something about it?
I hope my watchers can help
You could do the same!
I will make a journal talking about this and you could do the same.
Sites like Weasyl, IB and SoFurry, likely use a unique user id to define each user and link the data across various tables of the database with this number. The username would simply be a field which is checked upon login and displayed on the site for ease of access.
FA on the other hand, since its inception, has relied upon the username to link all different data for a user together, and if you were to change the username in one table, it would require changing it in all the other tables, which (if I remember a discussion with
In reality it wouldn't be too difficult to create some form of script to help automate this process, if it was safe (in terms of data integrity) to do so. But given the DB side of FA has changed little in many years it may not be prudent to do so.
The old "Ferrox" re-code, was able to do this, but has since been abandoned, and the last I heard "Phoenix" can change usernames too, but I don't know if any updates have been posted lately on that.
* I've tried to source the original conversation I had to verify this, but it seems to no longer exist, however I found a forum thread which is somewhat relevant to this point (Link Below)
http://forums.furaffinity.net/threa.....account.15849/
I understand that the coding can be a big issue, but I recommend considering it for the future. There are many who come into the furry genre who are unsure yet of the vision and name for their fursona self. Having this option to correct the username helps them to make their account and their fursona more recognizable.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
I can totally agree with your comment, as I've had this username since 2007 and would dearly like to change it, but alas the coding prevents this. However I don't see it as totally impossible if a few tweaks were made in the way the site codes things.
So yes, I agree the feature would be really useful, it's simply a question of how best to approach the problem and how to minimize any potential issues that could arise.
Please also note, I am not a staff member and therefore have no control nor input in this matter, but simply offer a viewpoint from my previous experience(s) here on FA.
We need an option to change our usernames
Can people change their username for free on IB?
On Iknbunny yes, you can do it for free
Please FA staff, add an option to change usernames
Edit: Submitted a trouble ticket, will see how long it takes for them to notice it, I hope it goes through soon -_-
I fear it'll be broken forever.
that stayed a broken thumbnail and it seems to have fixed it for myself. I know that
it should be back by now, but if you are not interested in waiting for it to recover, you can try that.
WHY ARE THE FOLDERS AND STUFF ABOVE EVERYTHING. It looks so freaking bad. https://gyazo.com/a32953ffe6b7babc0f0df2135c12f23b
So instead of my folders being to the left of all the thumbnails, I have to scroll all the way to the bottom. Its the same with the notes.
Something else broken: everything to the left https://gyazo.com/842e93a21e12a0a2b35d2ec47b38ca5e
I ALSO CANT REPLY TO COMMENTS.
So maybe you need to look into that.
1. The block button. No one wants to see it. I think it would be a better fit under the Contact Information section of a user's profile page.
2. The banner and menu. Maybe make the banner about 25 percent smaller, don't stack the two ads, and put it below the menu. (I like the menu staying at the top when I scroll though. That is cool!)
3. Comment box. Especially on a post such as this, with over 9000 comments, even though I can just hit the End key and get to the comment box, I think it should be at the top of the comments section.
4. Also the option to order comments by newest first or oldest first. Some people prefer forum thread style, others prefer Youtube comments style.
I still think that the banner looks too huge on the beta site, and I'm still not the hugest fan of the color scheme.
I must be getting old though, but the "Tables forever, circa 2004 basic forum" appearance FA currently has is more appealing to me than the beta site right now.
I'm glad I peeked in here; I wondered why the thumbnails of half the art in my notifications vanished. ^^; Just a little kink to work out, especially now that you've figured out what caused it.
Someone above made a comment that gave me a thought/idea that I know I've seen on some other art gallery site - the concept of a universal setting in your own profile to set the theme, so if someone uses colors that look best in dark or best in light or something, they can override your setting, except then it gets tricky for people with visibility issues.
I'm SOOO amused that folks are saying to remove the hashes/lines background on admins and adding a red border, "for the colorblind"... Red is one of the most difficult for folks to see if they have any colorblindness!
I do have to agree with some other users in that the compact layout of gallery and Favorites without more differentiation has thrown me off a little bit, and I imagine that's why, when I redid my gallery/it was empty a while, I had +watches for my favorites and shouts as if they believed legitimately that those pieces were my own artwork, OOPS.
EDIT: Picture here http://s11.postimg.org/l425zk1hf/fa.....s_so_broke.jpg
The first time it was right next to the watch button, an then it moved a little more to the right, and now its right under the User Options!
also when editing folders, maybe a line to connect the folder titles and the edit buttons. hard to tell which edit button goes with which title since they are so far apart
β’ Now that FA allows much larger image sizes, it might be a good idea to have an intermediate viewing size on images, i.e. anything larger than 1024px wide gets shrunk to fit, with options underneath to view smaller, intermediate, or full size.
β’ Put the "Prev/Favorite/Download/Next" bar back under the image and above the gallery thumbnails to better visually associate available actions with the current image. They're practically invisible under the gallery thumbnails.
While they work for me in the preview on a submission's page, they still do not work on my profile in the gallery area.
I also don't know how much you will work on the look of the page itself, but I think there can be some things done to make it more pleasant to eye. I really like it so far though
1. I feel like text buttons like "post comment", "reply", "gallery, scraps...", all the buttons on the top bar (browse, upload etc.) and any other buttons lacks some kind of separation, it takes a bit time for my eyes to find a button when the text is floating and not put in maybe a box with different color. Some of those buttons when you hold a mouse on them they change color and get a border, that is something I feel lacking when I don't have my mouse over it.
2. The whole page feels like it's very very wide, which also makes a bit uncomfortable to look at, maybe make the borders on the sides a bit wider? To make the page look a bit narrower?
That is only my suggestions lol
Keep up the good job
