TGIF Mar-4-2016 Paw-Post!

General
Thank you to all for the Watches, Favourites and great comments!
*growf*So I did get some of this done earlier in the week, but knowing I had a large opening yesterday morning with having to be at work early for a firewall upgrade, AND having some family staying at our house this week, I was really hoping to get the lions share of this done yesterday morning. And we ALL know what happened yesterday - FA blew up (again). Since FA is the primary source of a lot of this stuff, and since it was not properly generating thumbnails and links, I got nothing done yesterday, which leaves a LOT to try and do today. I haven't been able to work on it at home because of the family being there (they left tonight). So that said, Descriptions will be few in this Paw-Post as there are a lot of links to pose. At least with the expanded tagging, you'll still know the species involved.
Also, for the artist highlight, I'm moving up the March 18th highlight to today because I did not get a response back in time to finish the original one planned for today, and I think you'll VERY much enjoy it. :) The highlight is StarvinArtMajor, and she was an absolute pleasure to interview for it and has a lot of amazing work to pour over.
Also, a nice Fur-In-Need update - thanks to everyone's generosity, TheOwlette was able to get the funds she needed to replace her rapidly dying computer, and thus can continue to make a living doing the awesome art she does! Thank you to everyone that helped out. :)
So, all that side, let's try to get all the crazy links done!
TC's Random Music Pick
Epic Llyod "Scars" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMwBBF9N5HEOne half of the "Epic Rap Battles of History" team, Llyod makes some songs of his own as well. This one I really like - not just an amusing video, but the lyrics kinda hit home for an older guy like me. Not much more to say about it - pretty self explanatory once you hear it! Oh and if you don't know what "Epic Rap Battles of History" are.... boop: https://www.youtube.com/user/ERB/videos -- you're welcome. ;)

by
DJ-Rodney - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19269514/ (C3: sfw-ish, m/m, red-panda, tanuki)Dawww... now here's one of those pictures that's just ALL about the paws. :3 A great picture of Kresblain's character getting some nice up close and personal time with Rod's Tanuki character. Both of them have big, beautiful C3 type soles, and I just love how gently and reverently the red-panda's holding up the other's foot and nuzzling it gratefully while eyes are locked on it to take in that awesome sole and big toes. I wonder if they'll switch after a while? Lucky guys. ^_^

So THAT'S what Foxy's hook is for! Niiiiice. It's Nommz getting the Pirate Cove experience. Great view of Nommz's lovely dragon paws while Foxy rides him. :3

TheOwlette:

One very stunning looking warrior bunny - if she doesn't defeat you with that big sword, she probably already did with those looks! Wow. Love how Owlette's got the right footpaw up like that too - jussssst to completely disable any paw-loving enemies and/or woo any paw-loving allies, I'm sure. ;)

Hee... so yeah in the first one - don't let Taomon's grumpy look fool you - he's loving EVERY second of being under Gatomon's lovely soles. They look so soft. ^_^ The second pic is of SplashyD's Dahlia, a very lovely feline lady with human-ish feet. And holy moly... talk about the perfect proportions for a C1 foot - bam, that is it! Very lovely soles. :)

Teaselbone:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19272679/ (C3: nsfw, m?/m, rat - macro) - Most Pawesome Runner-up!
I'm not sure what the macro is species-wise, or if male or female, BUT, you gotta love how beautifully detailed the skin work is between those huge toes and that nice ball pad. And honestly - that look on Redrodent's face? That'd totally be my expression too if I were in his place.
Restif:
http://www.deviantart.com/art/A-Mom.....tion-593729407 (C1: sfw, f, human - digital-art)
And rounding up the posts for today, a human - Restif's siren Adrea. Restif has a knack of rendering very perfectly proportioned feet. Adrea has these awesome plump big toes, and in this particular pose, you get a look at her right foot at an angle you rarely EVER see for a foot picture because most human feet actually look pretty hideous at that angle. Only when you got a foot with really nicely shaped toes, a gentle taper, and all-round good proportions does that angle turn out - and Adrea is certainly all those things. :)

Personal Summary:
Heya. So been drawing since I've been old enough to hold a pencil, I'm an art school dropout, and have been drawing for my full time job for about 3 years now. Holy crap how time flies.
Comment Preferences:
I really like constructive criticism. I want to keep improving, and any tips/tricks that can help me are greatly appreciated. I don't mind suggestive comments, though most of the art that I post is of other people's characters, so please try and respect their comment preference.

Some Q&A:
(TC) Hiya SAM and thanks for being willing to do the highlight for the Paw-Post! Being paw-centric, I'm gonna ask a few of those questions up front at least, so starting with the obvious - do you have any interest in footpaws/feet - if so, can you ellaborate?
(SAM) Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this! It's an absolute pleasure! Paws and feet are definitely an interest of mine. I'm a fan of classic and modern pinup, and some of the most amazing poses I've seen highlighted the legs and feet. I'm a sucker for some good gams.
(TC) So your appreciation for footpaws and feet is more aesthetic then - as in presentation?
(SAM) Oh for sure. Presentation is everything to me. As an artist, I'm very visually oriented, and the way any body part, including feet, is presented can infer a lot of information about the character, the scene, the mood or just about anything.
(TC) Now one thing were were taking about on some of your recent art posts was how you love showing expression in footpaws. Do you find it an interesting challenge to make something like a paw or foot convey something emotionally?
(SAM) Definitely! Showing off emotion through paws and feet is an interesting challenge. Like, if there's a shy character in a scene, how do their legs and feet show off that shyness? What's especially fun, is incorporating an emotion that isn't instantly readable on the first glance of a piece, but having the feet sort of be a tell as to how the character is feeling.
(TC) That's cool - I've always felt that "feet don't lie" when it comes to conveying emotion. So aside from aesthetics, do you have any personal interest in them?
(SAM) It's so true! Feet can let you know so much about someone's mood, their confidence level, and so many things. They're great tells. And as far as personal interests outside of aesthetics, not really. I haven't really given much thought into anything else but the look and presentation of feet and paws. The curse of being visually oriented. Everything else sort of falls by the wayside.
(TC) So, aesthetically speaking then, do you have any particular paw-type that you enjoy drawing more so than others (either species or classification type)?
(SAM) Favorites of mine have gotta be C4's and C5's. I've found that my personal preference tends to be closer to C5's because I really enjoy the enlongation of the feet and legs as a whole. I think that might stem from my pinup obsession as well. Plus, I can't draw plantigrade to save my life. It's shameful, I know.
(TC) Haha... awww, poor plantigrades. Alright, so enough about paws then for now! Anyone checking out your gallery would see one amazing colourful batch of characters and imagery - lot of diversity in your work. Is there a particular favourite type of thing you like to draw?
(SAM) Oh goodness, that's an excellent question. My gallery is certainly sort of a mix of a lot of different things. I experiment a lot of with different themes, though as long as I've been on the site, female pinup has been my number one thing to draw. Though a nice background is very soothing to work on after a particularly stressed day.
(TC) Any particular favourite character, subject or species to draw in that pinup choice?
(SAM) Let's see. I don't think I've come across a character or subject that I didn't like when it comes to pinup. Species though... I gotta go with canines. They just work so well for pinup. Though I think cervines are starting to grow on me, and I need to do more felines in pinup before I pass judgement.
(TC) Heh "pass judgement" - sounds so damning. I would agree you have a real knack for canines - Nebriwolf's beautiful character (who was a past character highlight here!) is one I just love seeing you do. How often do those sort of detailed pictures take you?
(SAM) Hehe, oh man, judgement sounded a bit harsh didn't it. Ah well. But Nebri brings me the very best pinup ideas! I absolutely adore that sexy wolf! And I could be horribly off with my timing on these, but usually for a piece like this, from concept to finalized piece is roughly 8 hours, give or take a few hours scattered over a few days, not including approvals of works in progress, or time spent booping around youtube.
(TC) *laughs!* "Booping around" - what a great saying. Interestingly enough a lot of skilled artists seem to give a similar time frame for such work. What's the hardest part of that process for you?
(SAM) I've definitely been trying to speed up my process, though sometimes it's easier to be quicker than other times. And the hardest and longest part by far is line work. Lining always takes me the longest, and there's nothing interesting going on with a piece, and it feels like there's no progress happening, so it's hard to keep the drive going.
(TC) How long have you been doing furry art anyway?
(SAM) I've been doing furry art now for three years, as of March 12th.
(TC) Oh wow, so actualy only a little while! And it's SO good too. Drawing's been something in general though that you've done a lot longer, right?
(SAM) Ah man, you flatter me! And you're right, I've been drawing for ages. Since I was old enough to hold a pencil!
(TC) So what got you into the furry fandom then - have you always been a fur, or was it more of someone pointing you at it?
(SAM) That's actually kind of a funny story. I had just lost my job, and the whole job hunting thing wasn't going so well. A guild mate of mine from WoW is a fairly popular artist on the site, and they told me that I should try and do commissions on FA. They helped me get acquainted with the site, and helped me get people interested in my content, and the rest is history.
(TC) So do you work full time as an FA artist now?
(SAM) Sure do! This has been my fulltime job since I started up on the site.
(TC) Wow! Very cool! And is it working out well for you - and do you have plans to keep expanding what you do?
(SAM) I've been met with so much kindness on the site, and everyone I've worked with has been amazing. I'd say I'm doing very well here. And I definitely want to expand out and do much more!
(TC) I've definitely seen a lot of varied themes in your work from normal to more bondage stuff and fight stuff. You're certainly not afraid to try whatever comes your way. Are you thinking about also expanding to different media forms too (vinyl stickers, decals, prints, etc)?
(SAM) I figure for artwork I should try everything at least once. Sometimes multiple times! And I would absolutely love to be able to try out some different media. I've got my eye on a laminator and a button press for my own nefarious purposes, and I would love to be able to do prints and stickers. I would have been doing prints already, but most of the artwork I do is pretty personalized to their commissioners. Though since I'm taking some time at the end of each month to do personal artwork, I'm thinking prints, stickers, and the like might be able to happen!
(TC) Very cool. I certainly hope you can. Alright, one more paw question I thought up, and it's all Nebri's fault again. :P You seem to have a real knack of accessories - whether it be teasing leggings or the shoes (and their design); is that part of how you try to draw the viewers' eyes to that area?
(SAM) All Nebri's fault! All of it!!! And that's sort of going back to the visual thing for me. I really enjoy having accessories that draw the viewer's eye to the point where I want them to go. Be it a fancy pair of shoes, or painted toeclaws, or jewelry or anything like that. It helps to show off some of the parts that people wouldn't normally look at. Especially when it ties into the rest of the piece. like the color of the shoes is repeated in other places, or the jewelry is part of a set with some other pieces. It's absolutely a ploy to draw attention to either a single focal point, or to draw the eye around the piece, so one part of the image isn't too heavy.
(TC) Very well put! I know with Nebri's pieces as well as others, it's just a visual roller coaster to enjoy images like there with your eye kind of flowing along the details, landing on new ones in each different place it's guided to. And on a sidenote, I would never get tired of seeing more Nebri. XD Alright, so last question, and the one I ask everyone! Is there anything you would like to say or ask to the folks in the Paw-Post?
(SAM) Oh man, I never get tired of drawing Nebri, so I'm glad that the sexy wolf has fans, so I can keep drawing her! And that's exactly right to call it a roller coaster, since there's so much to see, and your eye travels all over the piece. All those little details make up some pretty awesome pictures for sure! And oh man, everyone on Paw-Post is amazing. I love the work that gets put in here, and to all the artists and characters and everyone who makes this happen, you're awesome. Highest of fives!
Thank you very much for a super-enjoyable interview! Now, go pour over StarvinArtMajor's insanely huge gallery and marvel at just how much diversity she's got there. :) Have a good weekend everyone, and thanks for your patience with these sometimes late posts!

And oh my goodness, there's so many great artists in these posts that I could have help... Oh my goodness yessssss. Everyone has a technique, and it seems to me like art is all about studying different ways to do things, and then sort of take the bits and pieces that you like, and moulding them into your own style. Something something good artists copy, great artists steal something something. Which is totally not in support of art thievery. And awwwww yeah! Nebri can model for me any time XD
Oh man! If you wanna throw some foot practice my way, I would be more than willing to try out some fun doodles :D That would be a blast!
Well, perhaps I'll put in a PM some of the suggestions artists and so you can look at to get started on it. Just so long as you remember to do what feels best to you! Your style is already so beautiful, so tweaking it more so than replicating another's technique would sure look best. :)
Eee, thanks for the feature! ^^ When I got a photo of our dog Tesla making exactly that pose, I figured I just had to draw a Dorey looking like that at some point. It just fit too well not to. This is what I referenced it from: https://www.flickr.com/photos/doran.....7647923735655/
As always, so much to like here! I love JammerHighwind's kobolds though, https://www.furaffinity.net/view/19227958/ mmf they're so cute! And such nice feets...
Totally love Teaselbone's offering too! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19272679/ Best backrest ever.... mmf. Just wanna snuggle right into those pads.
Great feature as always, too! I think it might've been those pawboots for Bleedingsouls that might've got me watching SAM in the first place... I love the design of those so much. <3 Along with all those lovely NebriWolf arts! I really love the focus on using feet to express emotion. And mmf, TOTALLY agree on the accessories, obviously. ;) A subject rather close to my own heart of course... using footwear and other things to try and draw out certain features of the paws.
Yeah, that teasel one is just... mmf.. such a big plump sole. Was that partly the inspiration for the Naya pic you posted today? ;)
And yar, StarvinArtMajor has been really amazing! We've kept on talking back and forth since, and I really admire the passion that she looks at art and life with. She really wants to target improving paw drawings too, so I can't wait to see how much more stuff will be coming from her.
And yeah, really excited to see more stuff from StarvinArtMajor! May need to keep my eyes out for when she's next open for commissions too...
And yeah - can't wait to see how it goes. CAThulu also okay'd sending her a bunch of her reference pics to learn more about feet, poses, sole details and so on, and StarvinArtMajor is looking forward to having some awesome reference material in that regard. I'm just really humbled by how much she's wanting to tackle paws and figure out ways to do them better. ^_^
*scoots away quietly on the tardy bus*
I always do mental cartwheels when I'm asked to do a soft, romantic piece, or something with lots of emotion to it; I wonder if Aggro is the same way..? :0
Also, very nice Highlight ! :3
