Sketchin (early mornin arttalk)

gooood morning lovelies!
I've been FINALLY trying to get into the habit of sketching every day. Like I really don't draw nearly as much as I should which is a total shame. Literally what I upload here is p much all I do (except for some gesture drawing a couple times a week maybe), and I know that contributes to some of the stiffness in my work and the lack of creativity I've been feeling. In my year of university we needed to fill our sketchbook by the end of the year, and I got really good at sketching every morning, and I remember how loose and creative I felt by the end of it. I just see some of my favourite artists post sketch dumps and I'm like "holy shit how do you manage all this between commissions/also how do you even have the ideas to draw this stuff" so I think to get to a more professional level I need to stop worrying so much about theory and fundamentals and just focus on practical skills that will be literally translated into my day to day work.
I think I'm going to try improving from the ground up, meaning I'm going to spend a month or so really focused on sketching, another really focused on line art, another really focused on shading, and then another for backgrounds.
So I actually think I might make a commission theme out of it, like after my current queue only take sketches, then only lined/flat coloured pics, etc.
how often do you guys sketch? Is it a habit you made yourself acquire or have you just always done it?

it helps with art blocks too ;3; but i never post them unless i rly like them
I really don't do as much as I would like, but that's honestly a confidence issue.
The less I draw, the less I feel I'm even semi- okay at it, the even less I do all over again.
So reading this actually makes me feel 10x better.
Maybe sketching every day, even just little meaningless things, should help.
I love when artists like you share that they too aren't perfect or have trouble from time to time.
It makes us lesser artists realize that it isn't the end of the world when we're having artist's block.
Thank you so much for sharing!
I don't sketch nearly as much as I should, I just sorta sketch when I have an idea for something, not for practice or loosening (which shows a bit in the stiffness of my stuff too haha)
So do you mean you sketch it on paper and then take a pic/scan it and then line it digitally? I might actually try that and see if it helps retain some of the fluidity I can only seem to find in my paper drawings.
The only downside is you waste a lot of paper and it's not amazing for the environment, also it's a huge clutter hahaha! But honestly it makes my work turn out so much nicer.
and dont worry too much about those things (fundamentals and such)
i do sketch everyday though, I have a kind of addiction to drawing actually!
Ugh I need to get back into sketching!
