So I just got myself a tablet... And I'm lost.

Got a used Intuos 4 pretty cheap. Feels solid, not too scratched up.
So I'm feeling pretty good about my purchase. Only thing to do now is figure out how the damn thing works.
I don't have any artsy friends who use tablets and can give me hands-on tutorials, so I guess I'm asking anyone to point me towards a good video tutorial.
I haven't bothered playing around with the quick buttons yet, still working out how the pen works.
Is there any way to "pause" the pen? Like, make so it doesn't draw anything until I want it to? Right now it just draws soon as it touches the tablet, which is tricky as hell because I keep missing the spots I actually want to draw.
