Rant: Quitting Roche Bros. Soon
New Year.
New Employee Handbook.
New Problems.
That's pretty much the whole story summed up.
I've been with the company for nearly 5 years, and in all that time, have never seen so much things suddenly changing and not for the better. Today was another day of nothing but headache, and misery as my manager seemed to be under a bit of pressure. Why you ask? All the big wig higher ups from corporate decided it was time for a surprise visit. Only, this would count as the third one this week. Because of this, he decided to push everyone over the edge, by having all departments perform "special tasks" that no one was trained for. To make matters worse, the owner of Great Woods Plaza had a cut-rate building maintenance team at the store, getting in everyone's way with tools and extension cords all about. And to top it all off, the store was in the process of recieving deliveries. So, in a nutshell, the place was a madhouse.
But that's not all. As I'm sure most of you have noticed on my Twitter, there was a previous assistant manager who ran things HER WAY. With due process, and a few signatures on a formal complaint submitted to HQ, she was transferred to another store. Well, she was visiting the store with all the higher ups, just so her presence was known. It became immediately known why she was there, since it was nothing but demeaning comments made to all the department heads about the status and conditions of their areas. Of course, I recieved perhaps one of the worst comments ever made to me right in front of a few customers who were standing nearby.
"If you can't walk into this store with a smile on your face, you shouldn't be working here, period!"
Yeah, one to talk, I know. Still holds a grudge against everyone, specifically those of us who are in the maintenance department for getting her kicked out to begin with.
But enough about today's events. Here's a full summary of what the new year brought with it:
1.) All vacation hours removed. That means if I could afford to go to Anthrocon this year, I wouldn't be able to, due to not having accumulated enough vacation hours. Every year, all the associates would get an extra week of pay. I recieved a good 40 hours of vacation last year. This year, a goose egg.
2.) Hourly Cuts.
3.) Frequent Inspections
4.) Minimum work hours required for a paid 15 minute break increased from 4 hours, to 5. (I'm still working 4-hour shifts on most days.)
So there you have it. I don't think I'm going to last another week at that store. If I do, it'll be by miracle alone.
That's about it.
Take care all.

Don't be crazy... line something up BEFORE you leave... that way, you can flip them both birds behind you as you walk away. It may be a pain in the ass until you find something else, but you don't want to be without work for long.

Do you all have a union or are involved with a union? Sudden loss of benefits scream problems, especially 'pay cuts'.

Khorax is right about problems. They are on the way to failing as a business. Get yourself a new job and then leave. Quitting too soon means less money overall. Cumberland Farms is good to work for.

I am with you for those first two reasons alone! But yeah I agree with the others for sure. Line up something first and then get the hell out of there!
