(Story) Drifting
A soft light yellow glow came from the console of the ship, the long absolute silence in the empty void known as space made it look faint as the light was slowly dying. Soon a holo figure would show itself to the surrounding black ness that was out side of the ripped ship, as if it was staring right into the ship's cargo and all that was inside. The hologram slowly began to stand, oddly enough, the figure was small in size, mostly due to the size they wanted to give themselves. Another note to take was it appeared to be feminine, and with a tail, a shark tail to be exact.
"Mayday, mayday, this is UMFC ship Forward Long. This is UMFC A.I. Tori sending a message to anyone who can hear." The sound echoed through the speakers of the air sealed areas of the ship, and it happened to echo through her own head as she mouthed the words, hearing it from outside the closed doors to the long narrow hallway. The hologram, known now as Tori, slowly stood up, her faint light yellow glow being the only source of light in the room. Bouncing off the glass of the few cryogenic chambers that she was near, moving her body to look at each one until she found her. Smiling lightly with a sigh of relief as she found her partner in crime sleeping in said cryo tube.
"There you are Sam... Good to see your still asleep... For the past five years." Tori and Sam, known as the Master Sergeant for the UMFC, had been cut off from the slip space jump they made with their newest ally the "Arbiter." An alien who's species have their mouth cut in two tentacles with its upper jaw intact, she was once a part of the covenant, a alliance of different alien species who believed in a religious following to activate a ring type world known as Halo to give them a great life after death.
But thanks to Sam, Tori and most of the UMFC they showed the Arbiter and her people that they were lied to, causing a civil war against the covenant. They just killed one of the last and most important, leader of the Covenant, the Prophet Honesty. After killing them, they set to destroy the Halo creation called the Ark, barely escaping as the explosion had the slip space cut their ship in half. Sending the half with Sam and Tori somewhere in space, while the Arbiter was sent to Earth. But neither of them knew if that actually happened, they've been stranded for over five years in space
Tori looked at the glass of the cryogenic tube, seeing her reflection, her darker yellow hair with her light yellow colored body and even darker yellow lines of code running through her body and hair. She gave another sigh, thinking over the times her and Sam had been through hell together over the years, before they got stuck in space of course.
Thinking it over, she remembers every time Sam give a whistle when she was hacking into something for her, no doubt that Sam was looking at her rear. She would usually shake it off over the years since they've known each other, but some things are better said then done for Tori's case. Once in a while Sam would end up staring at her hologram form whenever they talked, it was either her chest area, or her backside Sam was usually staring at. Ending with Tori turning off the vision on her visor to keep her from looking once in a while, some times even locking up her armor to give her an idea of how annoying it was. But Sam just kept pushing, every time.
The memory banks started to play over what happened last from five years ago.
"Tori! Find us an exit!" Sam had started firing her weapon at the covenant aliens, while the Arbiter was busy swinging her energy sword at the one closest to them. The two fighting side by side as they defended the control room for the Ark, having trouble as the covenant just kept flooding in. Finally Tori finished searching for what they needed, a way out.
"Down the corridor and to the left! There should be a way out through a small door!"
"You heard her Arby! Go!" Sam shouted, running down the corridor while shooting her pistol at the enemies behind them, also covering the Arbiter as she broke into a sprint. The two had trouble running, with the place shaking from the core being destroyed by Tori, everything started to explode around them, even the corridor.
Soon they would arrive at the door, seeing a red light, Tori tried her best to hurry and unlock it for the two.
"Give me time! This thing won't be easy to-!" She was cut off by a blast, the door broke into pieces as an explosion came from behind it, Sam and Arbiter didn't wait, they booked it out and into what they could find. A big jeep that someone had happened to leave behind, jumping in Sam took the wheel while the Arbiter took the big mini gun it had on the back. Taking shots at any covenant that tried to come after them.
With a turn of the key, Sam pushed down on the gas, having the jeep roar loudly as it started to drive up the snowy hill.
"There! That's the Forward Long! Gun it Sam!" Tori shouted in her helmet, getting a loud roar from the jeep as her reply. Tori started to do the math in her head, the Long was four miles away from what she could tell, but Sam was booking it without stopping at all. Once she was sure nothing was following them, The Arbiter jumped into the front seat next to Sam, holding on for dear life as they kept going faster towards the ship.
"Lookout!" Arbiter shouted, a big explosion went off in front of the jeep, making it flip over onto its side and sending the two flying through the air. Landing with a loud crash, the jeep's wheels broke off as the engine fell out as well. Once being able to move, Sam looked up, finding their only ride destroyed she screamed in rage. Punching the ground as hard she could, nearly breaking her own fist.
"We must hurry!" Arbiter yelled to Sam, having already get a running start towards the ship. Sam widen her eyes as she started to sprint as well, her breathing normal as she tried not to panic from the explosions going off around her.
"You have five minutes to run the rest of the mile! Move your ass!" Tori shouted to the two of them, neither one of them bothered to reply back, just running as fast they could to the ship.
"Four minutes!" Tori kept shouting the amount of time for them to beat while they never seems to give up on running the rest of the way towards the ship. Burning a whole three minutes, they reached the ship, both still not stopping as they jumped inside and ran to the front of the ship to start it up.
"Sam! The hanger doors need to be shut if we don't want anything blowing up in there, go!" Sam didn't wait another second, taking a hard left as she started to dart down the long corridors of the ship towards the hanger. The Arbiter taking a small glance towards Sam, watching her vanish pass a corner, she continued to move.
Once inside the hanger, Tori walked Sam through how to close the doors, to which Sam's only reply, "I know how to close a damn door!" She smashed her fist onto a big looking button on a console, hearing the hanger doors start to close next to her. She watched it close as the Ark began to fall apart, Tori shouting to Sam for her to put her in the console. Sam did just that, feeling the ship take off as her body started to move towards the doors, she quickly grabbed onto something bolted to the floor as the ship started to move straight up into the sky.
"Tori!" Sam screamed as she tried to not look down below her at the closing doors, "You better hurry up!"
Finally the doors to the hanger shut, but that didn't stop Sam from letting go and falling towards them. She kept her grip on the bolted object she was hanging onto, not trusting the fall she was going to have if she let go. The Arbiter made it to the front of the ship, stopping herself as she grabbed onto something as well, taking the time to stop and breathe.
"I'm taking us into slip space, hang on!"
That was the last of the recording in her memory banks. She set her head against the glass, eyes still closed as she kept banging on the glass with her fist.
"Five Fucking years Sam... At least you haven't got a look at my ass in that long."
She gave a giggle, opening her eyes and looking at the dark grey armor Sam wore in the cryo tube. Her helmet by her side as she had was frozen to get some sleep in, and to pass the time. All while Tori remained outside the tube, watching over her friend, or in this case, her only friend. But being an idea comes with its limits, over the past three years, Tori has found out she is going through Rampancy. Rampancy is when a A.I has lived for too long, and starts to drive itself to insanity, this is due to being made like a human A.I, having been made with a part of both tissue from the brain and skin. Once in a while her color would change from the bright light yellow, to a dark red and orange. Showing signs that she is starting rampancy, other signs are of her taking to herself as if there was copies of her talking all at once.
Some of these rampancies had made the main emergency power almost fail due to her being in the ships core and consoles, nearly killing Sam a few times as well. With each passing week and month, her grip on her rampancy starts to slip more and more for she can't control when it happens. She looked down to the cold dark floor of the room, jumping from the console onto it, she grew in size. In height she was standing at 5'5, nearly two feet smaller than Sam, being at 7'2. She walked over to the cryo tube, her hologram glitches with every step she took. Reaching out a hand, she pressed it against the glass, sighing as her eyes closed and her head lowered.
"I don't know what to do Sam..." She would slowly look back up, a memory of Sam just getting into the cryo tube came to her.
Removing her helmet, Sam turned and gave Tori a toothy grin, "Wake me when ya need me." With that she hopped into the tube, closing her eyes before the cryogenic started to freeze her in place.
Looking over to the pad next to the tube, it flashed, waiting to be pressed to opened and release the tube door. Tori took a few steps towards it, stopping herself, she turned to her friends sleeping frozen body. Wondering what she was dreaming about, or even what she was feeling being inside the tube for so long. Looking back at the pad, she moved her hand over it, pausing as she took one last look between Sam and the pad. The question in her head repeating over and over.
"Do I open it?"
