I can't quite explain why I like em, but I do. I'll agree with the overabundance of herms though. I had a few too many as well, so I'm trying to limit my newer characters to anything but herm. The hyper proportions also confuses me too.

Well, as someone who enjoys a lot of things on the light and medium end of kinks, I have to say, herms are quite literally the full package. Now, I honestly can't say I'm all about them all the time, as you can probably tell from my gallery, but more often than not, they're something I'm almost always interested in. Personally, I'd like to think I'm quite dick-centric, because I dunno, penises are great in my eyes. But at the same time, so is the female form, and all that accompanies it. So, when you get them together, it really makes for something I never really tire from. Like I said, sometimes I may want to stray away to more exclusively male or female oriented things, just to see and enjoy how others' uniqueness is carried out using just those bits, but I'll almost always be interested in herms. Now, gals with just dick, balls, and butt are a whole different thing, but I still enjoy them greatly for largely similar reasons.

As for why it's frequently paired with hyper stuff. I honestly can't give you a straight answer there. For the most part, it just seems like a big coincidence.
