I'd certainly recommend Megaplex! Not going this year, but I did last year and it was a lot of fun. Quite a few Carolina furs attend. Definitely gotta be careful of the rain though, my mate's suit got absolutely soaked last year! The drive isn't too terribly bad in my opinion.

Cool, thanks for the tip! Ha, yes, Florida's weather can be even less predictable than our own, so I can totally see watching the forecast closely if I consider any outdoor suiting. :)

Well, you know what I am going to say.....

Argh, yeah, it was really hard to even consider not going to FangCon after how awesome it was to hang out last year and totally rock the dances with you and everyone else! I haven't decided one way or another yet, and it may even work out where I could do both, so we'll see. I just dread that drive, ha.

I was disappointed to see Fangcon move two hours driving time further away this year but I'm still planning on going to it.

I have heard alot of great things about Megaplex, including cheap airfare there through southwest airlines. If I remember correctly it was in the sub 200$ range and you get a free checked bag so you save some money there as well.

Fall Conventions:

FA United in Herndon, VA (August 12 - 14) - 5 hours driving time
IFC in Indianapolis, IN (August 19 - 21) - 9.5 hours driving time (I know you wished for less than 9 hours but I went to this one last year and had a blast xP)
Fursonacon in Virginia Beach, VA (September 16 - 18) 3 hours driving time <-- scratch this one, apparently it got moved to march, but maybe something next year

Oh yeah, Southwest is pretty daggum awesome for flying with a suit. I use them every time I go to TFF because the airfare is reasonable and I can check a huge suitcase plus the suit box for free. If I go to Megaplex I would most likely fly there with Southwest as it's a direct, cheap, and short flight (plus the hotel apparently has a discount deal with one of the shuttle services).

Fursonacon happened the week after TFF, yep. Not this past weekend but the weekend before it, actually. I was disappointed about that as I really loved the September date and how close it is to this area, but hopefully next year it will work out!

Are you doing FangCon this year? I'm still toying with the idea of going (possibly to both FangCon and Megaplex), but not sure yet.

I'm up in the air on Fangcon. 4-5 hour drive, and having to go through Atlanta. And there may be something charitable closer to home for me to participate in that weekend.

Heh, the 9+ hour drive (including stops) is really the biggest reason I'm even questioning FangCon this year. I did talk to Draconis and Keefur at FangCon and told them that if they still have trouble with TN hotels next year they could always hold it in NC... :D

I'll be going to Fang Con (possibly to hopefully DJ ^^) I would love to see you there but of course do what is best for you. if you don't feel like driving I can offer carpooingl I suppose. You wouldn't have to drive as far. (Bowling Green KY is where you would drive to and I take care of the rest I suppose. Just throwing options out there. then again I don't know where you live heh )

I've thought about this more and am now considering the possibility of doing both FangCon and Megaplex, or, if I do have to choose one over the other, sucking it up and making the big drive down to FangCon. I'm even trying to talk some of my friends from Texas and TFF into doing an epic road trip together to the con, heh.

Yes, the move of Fangcon to Birmingham wasn't undertaken lightly. It is never good having to change cities, but the reality of it is that it was too difficult to obtain a stable environment in Knoxville due to the stupid football schedules that change every year, which eliminates multi-year contracts. We went through a service that helps place conventions, and Birmingham gave us a great deal. We are still holding open the option of trying to move back to Knoxville next year, but again, it will depend upon whether the hotels are willing to work with us.

I have also been to Megaplex, and they put on a great con, too. Even though Fangcon has changed locations, we like to think of attendees as family and would missl you, or anyone else who cannot return.

I talked with you and Draconis for a while at TFF about this (while I didn't have my badges on me, doh!) and I absolutely understand that moving to Birmingham wasn't a flippant thing and only a measure of last resort. I'm hoping that FangCon will be able to return to TN (or, maybe to the NC mountains which is close enough :) ) next year--even if that means changing the time of year. I know y'all will work something out!

FangCon has actually been some of the best times I've ever had at a convention, honestly. Sure, things seem to run on a very special brand of "furry time" throughout the entire con but what has really struck me the past 2 years has been how, unlike several of the larger conventions, I really felt like I got to meet new people and get to know them as it was a very relaxed environment and you do get to see the same folks over and over again. It does have more of a family gathering feel than a cliquey or busy one, and I love that.

After thinking it over some more and talking with a few folks I'm now leaning heavily towards attending (and DJing and helping with the dances again), it's just a matter of figuring out the logistics, what other vacation time I'll be using, etc. I'm hoping it will work out so that I will see y'all late October after all! :)
