Amasing how older stuff lasts longer than modern stuff.

So youve probably heard the ol saying "They dont make things like they used to". And in a way its pretty true. Alot of these new electronics may be high tech and do alot but it does seem like longevity is not necessarily the top of the list. Heck ive had my current cell phone for about two years and already theres issues like the keyboard is sorts burned into the image and im already thinking about replacing it.
In contrast ive had the same Hi-Fi system in my living room for years. Its comprised of a 1995-96 Yamaha RX-V590 audio reciever http://www.hifiengine.com/images/mo.....ront_panel.jpg
And a Yamaha CDC-555 5 disc CD player https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe....._CD_player.jpg
This system is 20 years old and i still use it as my TV surround sound system and the CD player works great. In the time ive had it ive only fixed one thing, the belt that connets the pully on the CD tray motor to the pully on the drawer itself. Over the years the rubber belt stretches and gets loose. Just replaced it with a O-ring of the right size and it works like brand new.
Im probably gonna have this setup for another 20 years. XD

Dude i so know what you mean and especially with cars. Ill take my old 1990 s-10 blazer over any newer car. XD also the same with my electronics. My 1978 pioneer sx650 will out last any of this newer stuff and also out power it as well. hehe

Cars do count in this situation for sure. I remember my mother always taking pride in Volvo ownership. She had 2 of the 240 models and thy ran like champs. When Volvo was bought by Ford the practices they did that saved Jaguar sadly brought down the quality of Volvo. I remember one of her later Volvos had a couple of recalls. Heck MY 2003 Ford Ranger was only 7 years old before the tranny, which leaked all the way till i sold it, had to be rebuilt and round 10 years before the air conditioner evap leaked out the freon and an electrical gremlin formed where the car would die during startup. I have a KIA Soul now.

Planned obsolescence ... I have a Sony stereo receiver that I bought in 1994, still going strong, a Pioneer PL-540 Direct Drive turntable and a Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel tape deck > http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19143876/ and I love them, but if the new things lasted like the old stuff there would be a lot of people out of work .... all the workers in foreign countries that build everything in the USA that we buy today! SB.
