I think its cool to give your sonas/ characters a back story you just put parts of yourself into who they are. Like what would you be like in that alt world with whatever you put into it.

Well yes, I think a fursona/persona should have a phantasmal anecdote that expresses them. After all they are an extension of yourself. There are too many fursona/personas that are nothing but begging jizz-containers. It is the will of self expression. (I want to read that story)

I find it's nice if a character at least has some sort of background and character development that fans can be made aware of. It helps make a connection towards that character in some way or another.

When people have "Fursona's" they art just typically themselves but in the furry universe/as an Anthro animal.
If your Sona was more of a Character and not so much suppose to Represent you as an anthro character/This is me as a Dragon, then I think making a backstory and all of that is a way to give personality to the character if they are....well...not justy YOU as a dragon.


Frankly I love characters and sonas with a story to them. I like to sometimes PRETEND they are real in a way. But to do that they need personality which is achieved through stories or illustrations of what they do.
Answering the question, nah, they don't NEED it, but for some people like myself, I enjoy them :)

Seeing how I just finished a study on the sexual attraction to fictional characters, the majority of people seem to enjoy characters that have a solid personality, having five main points focused on being recognition, personality, humanity, enrichment, and pain. But the main point is to make them relateable to the viewer to have the best one on one interactions. Stories assist in this because it allows the viewer to empathize with the character more by learning all about them: likes, dislikes, weaknesses, etc. However, if they are not well balanced, say, like a Mary Sue type character, they are usually ignored or not cared about as much. This isn't saying that they won't be liked at all, but rather the majority will find them boring.

A journey will teach you more about the destination than you know, by which I mean yes. A character with a well thought out background is often teeming with stronger life than that of less fleshed out cousins.

A fursona is a representation of you, so I feel like they either need to not have some kind of bg unless it's symbolic, reflecting your own history.

Do they need one in general? I don't think so.
But if you feel like adding a story to yours, then go for it. Even if the greenie beanie has a fantastic backstory, it doesn't have to detach the sona from yourself. It's all in good fun. :3

I think the stories are optional. As for me I do have a story with my sona and it can be completely off rl events and it will still be my sona because I poured my soul into it. everything he does is how I would do things. not to mention that deep emotional connection with the character. so yeah I would love to see a story of your sona X3

Yes and no. I'm personally creating a story for my own fursona as of now, but what we take after each other is some traits from our look, and well, he's basically a paragon of what I want to be in the future. At least body-wise, kek.

Depends on what your character is to you. A furaona to me is basically an idealized fantasy version of yourself. While a character could be that too it seems more like a character has more of a life of his own that you create for him.

Like my character Nox, he has a few of my traits, but in general has a completely separate life and story from me. And is not really my fursona, though he is my representative here I suppose. Though as I get art that stray more and more away from canon, I instead see him more as an actor that can play out any story I decide to put him in. He is no longer bound to be the Argonian thief living in the elder scrolls universe, and can instead live in modern or future setting as well.

If that makes any sense. And to answer your question, no you don't absolutely need a story, but it is something that can flesh him out a bit.

I do like a good story. I always tried to integrate Trakos into stories when I was younger ^^ He's not just a sexy red dragon, there's more to it than that. I like to think he's a representation of all my positive traits.

Its optional. Altallo has a backstory and in fact one long story ahead of him, but he's not a sona he's a character
