Which is why Green was particularly hard at this section of the game - his pokemon were always one level higher than my highest!
Items were also disabled, as were EV points from kills :(
Actually I skipped Brock - his pokemon were level 25, so I decided to move onto cerulean to find a water type and come back to him.
That's when I got trapped by green on the nugget bridge :(
