Name Change Update

We went and everything went pretty great! I was able to get my fee waived and I have a hearing on June 23 (six days before my birthday) for the 'name change petition' to be granted. :3 I just have to order a new 'long form' of my birth certificate because apparently they don't accept the small one my mom got when I was a kid? I dk. Everyone was super nice, they offered us donuts like four times it was so sweet. OH and we met the most awesome lady there, she's also trans and we ended up having our hearing on the same day (hers is right before mine) so we get to see her again. :D
Either way it's happening! Oh, and the gender marker on my ID and everything else will be changed too, I just need a 'letter of safe passage' from my doctor (who helped me get my T prescription). This is all turning out to be a lot easier than I thought it would be.
If you're in the Chicago area and are looking to get your Legal Name Change and GM taken care of you should definitely have the Transformative Justice Law Project help you. They filled out almost all of the paper work (which is great, because I didn't have to keep writing my dead name over and over) and they talk to the judge for you and everything. It really is helpful and everyone is genuinely caring and wants to help. :) Note me if you need more info!

Me too!!!! Honestly, most of our finding these places that have been so helpful has been through word of mouth. Like, we found out about the clinic that would help with my T prescription through someone that worked at another center, then we found out about the TJLP through my clinic. :P Thank you for your support in all of this :3c

Thank you so much!! Maybe you could try going by a male/gender neutral name to see if it feels more natural for you? I found myself hating my birth name before I even knew I was trans too. :P I started going by 'Zachary' online when I was like, 13 and it just stuck. :)

I just don't know what connects to me. I'm anything but a girl and I know that for sure but when people call me "she" and a "pretty girl" it makes me sad

I'm really glad that these things like name changes are so much easier for trans ppl now. It really shows that were moving forward in society. And I'm really glad you're able to do this :) <3
