There's actually a ton of really great Christian music, but 100% of it is non-mainstream. Personally, I'm really digging Guardian (late 80's, early 90's style rock) and there are even some heavier metal Christian bands out there if you do some digging. Classic acts like Stryper and Petra saw a lot of crossover, with the former even making the rock charts in the mid 80's.

Gospel music is pretty good

it's the followers of Jesus that tend to take it to preposterous levels of buffoonery and violence

Gospel is about soul and being thankful and happy and celebratory and those things are always good. So I greatly approve.
