BLFC POST-CON RECAP EXTRAVAGANZA
.......BEGIN TRANSMISSION.......
Or just a fancy name for the recap meme idk.
Anyways, BLFC was the most amazing convention I have ever attended! Everything that the staff did to make the convention memorable was SPOT ON. I'll go into details about this in a bit.
So, here we go:
I drove the six hours from my home in LA up to pick up
near San Jose, then drove another three hours to Reno, arriving at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino at around 5pm. There, we met up with one of our roommates,
and checked into our large King bedroom. We had room 1518, basically right next to the elevator. Our room consisted of a single King-sized bed, and a Ton of Space for two blow-up mattresses, and the pull-out couch bed. After bringing all of our stuff into the room,
and I headed downstairs to pick up our conbadges and other convention swag next to the dealer's den. Afterwards, we headed back up to the room, dropped off our stuff, and suited up as Le'shaat the pirate cat and Billet the border collie and went out and about at the con for a while. We had dinner at the Johnny Rockets in the hotel, then laid around in the hotel room before going back out to suit some more. Afterwards, we headed to the dance and had a wonderful time dancing to the sick tunes. The whole day, I wore my awesome skirt that
gave to me, and I think it looked pretty great.~
Friday started out with a great sleeping in until around 9 or 10, then we all got up and went to have breakfast at the hotel's cafe. During the night, our other roommates,
and
arrived, so they joined us at breakfast, along with
, whostayed with us thursday night since her roommates hadn't arrived yet. We brought leftovers of pancakes back to the room, and left them in our cooler chest with the alcohol and ice.
and I went back out along with
and did some fursuiting in the dealer's den. I bought a harness from
, commissioned a kigurumi reference from
, bought a bunch of teeny-weenies® from
, and commissioned a badge from
. We had dinner at Johnny Rocket's again, and then attended the dance that evening.
Saturday began with a slightly less late morning, as we were all up and heading out a tad earlier than the day before.
and I hit the pool after suiting for a while, then stopped for milkshakes at Johnny Rocket's. My memory's a tad hazy on what happened between that and the fursuit photograph, so I'll go right to that. The fursuiters all gathered in the hallway to head into the photoshoot room downstairs, and we each got a scarf with a number stitched into it and the words "I am not just a number" spraypainted over it. My number was 461. The photoshoot was finished without too much waiting around, and we headed back to the room to desuit and relax for a while.
accompanied
and I to dinner at the buffet, and we all ate WAY too much food. xD Later,
, freckledfuricon:, myself, and several others played Cards Against Furmanity , made by the awesome
.
Sunday was an early morning, as we had to have the room cleaned out and everything packed into our vehicles before checkout at 11AM. We hit the dealer's den one last time, and I picked up a few window decals for my car, as well as a "Genderfluid Fur" badge from
. We hit the road at around 2, and gave a ride to
since they were on the way home. The drive home for me took about 8 hours altogether, and I arrived safely around 10:30 pm.
Wow. I can't say enough about how amazing this convention was. The venue was enormous, the hotel was beautiful, every single room of the convention had more than enough space to house everybody present. The mezzanine, casino floor, and shops floor were decorated with all kinds of convention swag, from tagged P.O.S.T.E.R.S. from last year's convention, to fliers advertising the different panels and events and dealers in the den, to random splatters of glowing paint or fabric. The convention staff were all very pleasant, as were the hotel staff. Everybody was friendly, and even the regular folks at the hotel had a genuinely friendly attitude towards the furs. There was always something to do in every single room of the con. Boxes and huge fuzzy dice to stack, a huge tub of legos, a massive custom litebrite-esque glowing peg board, and a large box made to look like Brometheus's face that you could hide inside of were scattered about inside the dance hall. There were more fuzzy dice, a bunch of foam frisbees, and a pair of tricycles in the dealer's den. The amount of detail that went into the theming for this convention was just amazing, and really made the whole thing go together. The faction-themed badges made for an easy method of identifying other people with whom you had something in common, and facilitated the creation of new friendships and playful alliances and competition.
I have so many pleasant memories from this convention, that I don't think Post-Con Depression will be hitting for a little while still. I am happy to say that I have definite plans to attend again next year, and I cannot wait to see all of my awesome friends again.
