That one coder they hired on last year but wasn't paid for several months until he put up a youtube video explaining the situation and that he needed money due to not being paid had pointed out that the source code he did get to see revealed that it's using old, shitty, vulnerable code. Vulnerabilities that were patched up in newer versions of the libraries they apparently but some Russian guy on the team is extremely uptight about others messing with his code. Either way, it just underscores the incompetence of site leadership on what is generally supposed to be high priority matter for anyone running a site as large as FA; not shit that goes unfixed for years.
Wow, I wasn't expecting an actual explanation haha. Yeah, considering that this site has been hacked more in the past six months than any other site I got to in the past six years it really demonstrates that there's a hilarious amount of mismanagement going on here.
Yup. lol. Partly why when you're going to school for this stuff there's usually an entire quarter dedicated to security. Also, given how there are people that hate the site leadership as well as the fact furry content even exists... security should be #1 priority on this site especially with how often it's attacked as you've noted. Well hopefully this was a learning experience for those that run this place and maybe some real changes that are needed on the backend will happen sooner than later. Well... we all can dream anyway. ;)
Yeah, it's obvious that this site will always be a popular target but I can't imagine it gets attacked any more than any other popular site with a much larger userbase. So the fact that it keeps getting wrekt like this means there's clearly something else broken here.
I was sitting back watching twitter today, just thinking ".............................. heh........"
And took a snapshot of Dragoneers post saying "We have made excellent progress cleaning up the current issues. We don't have a ETA, but will update you as soon as we know."
And just editing that onto a painting of Rome burning.
