Funny how calm I was (like every other situation on FA) when the site went down for a long time. Used my free time to do other things like video games, without even being one bit worried about FA being down. People seem to be rather too sensitive nowdays. ;v

yeah, i mean FA is a lot of fun and all... but it's not the only thing on the internet you can do. or life for that matter. if it's off, do something else, and come back when it's on, simple as that >< what did you play? :)

Hear hear! Yeah, I don't really understand the logic of leaving because of this too well myself, though I'm fairly certain that most of the people leaving will be back again soon anyways. At some point they'll realize how hard it is to actually build up their watcher count on other sites and come back :P

yeah, i guess they're hoping that all their watchers will follow them. but not everyone can be arsed to do so. plus i don't want to see artists leave. i follow them because i love their work! i don't want to miss out on it for no good reason :(

Yeah it is pretty sad to see a few of them leave permanently but I guess if leaving is what then want then that's how it is :/ All that wonderful new talent that comes to the site every so often will just have to take their place :)
Also I could imagine it being a VERY low percentage of their followers that would follow them on other sites. Though that is coming from someone who's just too lazy to be active on more than one site :/

Yeah, I do have accounts on other furry sites but that is mainly just to check for any new art that hasn't been posted on FA once in a while. I need my daily dose of handsome green brutes and a bit of hypnosis after all ;3

Yeah, I do the same as well, though I most of the time don't really have that much cash to spend on commissions, so I just have to rely on others to bring the glorious beef to me ;3

Agreed. It isn't FA's fault that it got hacked. Security is never perfect, and like you said, the best sites and companies in the world get hacked. Its going to happen to internet based things.

When people just up and leave the site due to one incident, its ungrateful to the people who watch them. It doesn't speak much for their character. Spreading out and all is fine, but abandoning the site because some stupid idiot with nothing else to do attacked it is immature. Its overreacting.

I'll still be on here. FA is where I got lots new friends. I wonder why the admins are taking the heat, even though it was the hacker that did this. He used an ImageMagick exploit to download the source codes, which that's what image processing software that FA uses for their images. The hacker must have crafted a special type of image with malicious coding on it, that got the source code downloaded. ImageMagick had loopholes to begin with. FA patched up a certain loophole related to it, but not before the guy found the loophole and downloaded the source code. -_-

hackers will always find a way, no matter how. that's what makes them so anoying and a waste of space. and well blaming an admin is easier

it's a great thing, as I've found something different to play to keep me busy until I've put enough money on the side for Mighty No. 9, or even GTA V....or both, if I'm feeling that ambitious.

and well everyone knows GTA, but i was more of a saints row person. i did get GTA 5 from my sis, but still need to try it out before i can say if i like it or not

For me, Terraria was sort of a "Minecraft meets Castlevania" deal, and being a fan of both of those games, Terraria definitely had sparked my interest.

Also, Mighty No. 9 is a spiritual successor to Megaman.

I won't be leaving, none of the other sites are any better or worse than FA; they all have their problems really.

It pretty much happens whenever some shenanigans occur, people get mad, claim to leave FA, try to take as many people with them to whatever site they're relocating, few people bother and that's it. In fact, some of them even end up returning to FA, because no one wants to bother going thru the hassles of making a new account and migrating their work and what not.

It's pretty much why they often come back, either the "new" site is too inactive to really have the same experience or the site they moved to is just as bad. I won't even bother going there because I've been to these sites at some point myself and seen myself that it's not worth migrating.

I still post at deviantART, but that's because I originally began posting art there back in 2005 and have a small number of friends there. Over the years, I became much more distant there as the community there devolved into a bunch of pretentious drama queens who constantly troll, whine, and/or insult others, and the staff stopped caring for everything about deviantART and its userbase except $$$. And some of the crap they did in the past was far worse than the FA staff's antics.

"Got a virus from their ads? Too bad! Buy Premium subscription and you won't have this problem." (Yes, they seriously once said that to a complaint about malware in their ads).


I also once gave tumblr a try, and not even an week later I dropped it like a hot potato. Between the cluttered layout, and the flood of idiots who don't know what the NSFW tag is for, I just couldn't stand the place. And their customer service was even worse than deviantART's (which says a lot).

I could put up with the usual unmarked NSFW crap for a while, but when I started seeing real life pictures of a popular artist's wiener without any sort of mature filter on (among other things), that was the last straw for me and I immediately abandoned my account there. As bad as the horrors of FA's NSFW database is, at least the people here are courteous enough to tag them as NFW.

FA has its problems, but at least it's community is a lot better than the other sites, IMO. In fact, the Anime/MLP "community" on DeviantART is far, far worse than anything I've seen from FA's community.

It was a long time ago, like around 2009 I think; they seem to have done a 180 on it since. But yeah, it was pretty jarring at the time. Good thing I just cut the middle man out and used adblock.

But it still doesn't excuse how shitty the community has become on dA has nowadays. I'm still pretty upset with a incident i had a couple years ago there.

hmm, i do see a mix of opinions though as far as i can see like 2/3 really cruel ones.

The mixed opinions were fine, it was those rude ones that rubbed me the wrong way, especially the first poster's.

That was two years ago, and I've gotten some interest in my commissions now. Some of my past clients have even expressed interest in repeat business. And a lot of people have commented on how much I've improved since then.

Considering that and the fact that some of the rude commenters have apparently been banned/deactivated, in the end, I say I'd have the last laugh. So this really does not bother me anymore.

good. because with coments like that you should only do one thing. take out the constructive critisism out and dump the rest. use only that which can imporve you. besides we all start out "sucking" at what we do. but only with time and putting effort in it, can we improve ^^ I'm glad you didn't let it bother you

To be honest, it did for a while, but my friends helped me get over it when I talked to them about it. Once I started actually getting commissions, I started to move past it for real.
