Scorpionfly, cock-of-the-rock, okapi, blue tree monitor, gharial, chinese giant salamander, bichir, thylacine, mosasaur, quetzalcoatlus, gorgonopsid, elephant shrew, lammergieir, fossa, mantidfly
There you go, at least one for each vertebrate phylum + some insects + some extinct stuff, maybe one will tickle your fancy?
wow thanks so much! i knew a lot of these animals, but i really want to expand my horizon with insects and reptiles/amphibians so i really love this list!
i do love love love fossa, such cute faces. ahh ;-;
im very drawn to fossa, quetzalcoatlus, and the bearded vulture.
ive been trying to make a scorpion characters for a long time, could you maybe give some tips on how i could even begin drawing an anthro one??? x_x i cannot seem to do it but theyre one of my favorite animals
If your looking for more cool ectotherms may I suggest Boelen's pythons, panther chameleons, olms, tentacle snakes, milk frogs, croc monitors, crocodile skinks, leaf-tailed geckos, sailfin lizards, rhinkals, bush vipers, rhino vipers, rainbow boas, wheel bugs, ebony jewelwings, orchid mantids, trilobite beetles, bee flies, uropygids, solfugids, black beauty stick insects, magnolia green jumping spiders, giant isopods, and horseflies (they can have crazy cool eyes)
And yeah, those are some of my favs too. Lammergeiers really put the dinosaur in avian dinosaur :D
I've actually never tried to draw an anthro scorp so I had to take a minute and try to figure that one out via sketching http://m.imgur.com/HnEYc8a (feel free to use any of that in your own studies)
I found that the way scorpion's claws work doesnt really lend itself to being used as an anthro characters main set of arms, so I just used the secondary set to put hands on, it also helps of you dont think of the tail as the same thing as a mammalian tail, it's more of an extension of the body. Really study the way those joints work on the animal too, it usually ends up being more important than you'd think. Primarily though, I think the key is to really look at the anatomy of the critter and determine how each part of it corresponds to the human body, its A LOT harder with invertebrates than with vertebrates, but it can still be done with an arthropod.

Like for instance, if you find the leg anatomy image there, you can relate the coxa to the upper arm, the femur - forearm, etc., for legs I would ignore the coxa and fashion them after the femur and tibia, using the last segments like a digitigrade foot.
Thats my methodology behind anthropomorphization anyway, experimenting a lot is really the best way to do it. :D I hoped this helped somewhat!
where'd ya learn all this??! did you take classes or read up somewhere?
thank you SO much, im gonna try so hard on this scorp guy and a lot more now! im very excited to draw new animals, i am going to work my tablet down to the wires >:3c
one of my dream pets is a croc skink! i have multiple snakes and geckos i could use for reference, i never thought of that :3c
I think a keen sense of observation and a bit of curiosity go a very long way. I'm constantly surprised by the immense amount of stuff people miss going on around them. I've found that quite a lot of people don't know what robins are where I live and I literally cannot step outside without seeing like s i x of them.
That's what I like to hear! I bet he's gonna turn out fantastic :D
and me too, I adore croc skinks, although I think the next lizard in line for me might be a blue-tongued. Do use your own critters in studies, you'll be surprised how much you learn doing that. I have a pair of hissing roaches that make excellent models considering that they'll let me do anything I want with them, they're so useful :3
i had so many of those bug catching thingies, like the bug vacuum that sucked them up and was clear so u could look at them, but it didnt hurt em or anything
i really wanna do that again, since i have graduated i have a lot more time on my hands now so i definitely want to get in tune with nature again and catch them cuties and draw them and read all about a bunch of animals all day ahhhhh
.o.
aye ayes were my favorite animal when i was a kid ^^
I love skinks. A few of my favorites are blue-tailed skinks, crocodile skinks, and blue-tongued skinks.
Moths are super cute little bugs.
