So, things are moving along here at Casa Del Ott y Wolf.
I have actually been quite busy. I had a convention (not furry specifically, but there were furs there), and also a friend came to visit for a couple of days.
Also, I have been doing a good bit of training at work, and I actually go in next week (assuming you are reading this the week I posted it) for even more training.
That is kinda my doing. I had a 1 on 1 meeting with my bug boss (not my immediate boss, but HIS boss). It went well. He asked things I wanted to change about the programs and policies that we use and I gave a couple of good ideas and he liked them. I also told him that I wanted to take on more responsibility, so I have no one to blame but myself for whatever training I start next week. I don't regret it (yet.) I DO want to do more.
On the art front- I finally finished my cross stitch commission and I think it came out well. The client really liked it.. I would LOVE to take more of these. I will post it up so people can see what one would look like.
Unfortunately, I have really NOT been feeling the art lately, and I am not sure why. I think maybe just busy plus stress and such have kinda killed my art groove (what little I have). I DO have a commission and I AM working on it right now, so fear not, commissioner.
I feel AWFUL cause I am WAAAAY overdue with some art trades, like a few of them, and it isn't fair, but I dunno how to kick my art back into gear.
Yesterday (5/25 if you are reading this later) was a very up and down day for me. I took my kitty to the vet cause she's been scratching a good bit, and has some scabs. We got her back in early October (just in time to get a black cat for Halloween LOL) and this was her first ever checkup.
For some reference, she is a rescue cat. I got her from a no kill shelter that I believe rescued her as a stray, but my guess is that she had an owner before because she was not feral, she was very good with people.
So when I got her, they did a test for feline leukemia and it came out positive. They did another one later and it was negative. They were not sure which was right, so she was not housed with the other cats, she was by herself in the laundry room. It was a big room, she had toys, food, water, litter box, so she wasn't cooped up, but she was alone.
Fast forward to yesterday. I bring this up to the vet, and she looks at Selena (our cat) and does see some things that would indicate she could have leukemia, like inflamed gums. She was kinda talking it up, like false positives were very rare, but she suggested that we give it another try.
IT WAS THE LONGEST TEN MINUTES OF MY LIFE.
They took Selena away to get some blood and give her a steroid shot (more on that in a sec) and we waited...
AND IT WAS NEGATIVE!!!!!
I thought for sure she had it, but apparently she doesn't. But just in case she is going to stay an only cat, which I think Paul would prefer anyways. And I think 1 is enough for me as well. She seems to be OK with being an only cat and getting all the attention.
So that was the good news. The bad news? Well, not only does she have fleas, but she is either allergic or sensitive to the flea bites, that is why she is scratching so much and getting ugly scabs. That was why she got the steroid shot, some drops on her neck, and another 2 sets of drops to be put on for the nest two months to kill all the fleas and such. She is an indoor cat so either we brought em in, someone else brought em in, or she got em from when she was boarded in February.
Poor baby. Selena was SO good, and the vets, though I am sure they say that to everyone, really seemed to like her and complimented her many times.
I was so proud of my kitty. Not a single hiss or ear flatten. she literally purred the whole time, not even a stress type purr. The vet said she couldn't hear her heart cause of how loud the purring was, LOL.
She did squirm a bit when she had to take a thermometer up her bum. But she took it like a champ. I mean, who wouldn't squirm a bit?
This is a new vet place that opened very close to my house (about 5 min drive) and I REALLY like em. I am glad they are there. They said she is due for her yearly shots in June (I thought it was later, or else I might have waited to take her, though I'm glad she doesn't have to suffer through those bites any more) But she wont need a checkup, so they will just do the shots and send her on her way.
I guess I should talk about the elephant in the room before I end this... FA.
I have always been a supporter of FA. I have been here a few months why of 10 years. Are things perfect here? HELL NO. But it is a site run on a volunteer basis by people who love the furry community. Yeah, there have been mistakes, but they are only humans, and they seem to get a lot more grief than they really deserve, that is just my opinion though.
A lot of people are upset (rightfully so) about this latest security issue and are (once again) threatening to jump ship.
I am not jumping ship. I will continue to stay here, as it is BY FAR the most populated furry site, and if I want to continue to do commissions- art or cross stitch or whatever, it would behoove me to stay.
I have made accounts on a couple of other sites, but I haven't been maintaining them. I do have an interest in changing that, for at least 2 other furry sites- the two that seem to have the most potential- they are FurryNetwork and Inkbunny. I dont think Weasyl is doing too well, so it would be the lowest priority of the three.
I would say that right now FN would be first, as it says it has a way to migrate all my art over. I have over 700 submissions and DO NOT have the time or patience to do every single one of them again, much less for multiple sites. Now when FN was new I tried to use the migrator and it only took a portion of my art over. So I am very skeptical of if that works. But I am willing to give it a try.
So, keep an eye out here, when I am able to migrate my stuff over, I will be posting that here. But all art and such will ALWAYS be loaded here first, until further notice, for the long foreseeable future.
I have been watching with great interest the hullabaloo that blew up on Twitter and elsewhere about FN and certain types of porn that they will or will not allow. It has been a VERY polarizing issue. I, of course- as I always seem to, have a strong opinion about it. I have tried not to post TOO much about it on Twitter, and I don't want to post too much here. Other than to say that it seems hypocritical to be so up in arms about one type of art, when there are so many other types of art with subject matter that people would consider even worse in the real world, outside the art realm.
That is all I will say about it, as I don't want to lose friends or commissioners over my opinions.
I guess I have rambled on enough. I'd love to hear what people have to say about anything I talked about here or whatever else. Just be civil, please.
FA+

You might be interested to know that Inkbunny also has a migration tool. I used it to copy all of my submissions over to there. It filled in the tags, rating and description for all of them. I had to go in and edit some relative links that were FA specific, but it really saved me a lot of work. It's called FA2IB, and can be found here. To keep from triggering IB's anti-flood protection, it does something like 25 at a time, then waits a bit, and does more, until it's done. I just left it run, and when I came back a couple hours later everything was copied over.
I tried running the migrate script on FN, but it errored out about a quarter of the way through. I tried again, and it did a few more then errored out again, so I gave up. It doesn't really matter, as I likely won't actually use FN anyway. I just figured it would be a additional backup for my stuff. IB is better suited for that, since it's an ultra fast and reliable site.
I am really sorry you had to go through that with the bunny, but good for you for getting it back to health.
Thanks for the info on those migration tools. I am gonna have to take a look into those and hopefully that will help me get all or most of my art on those sites. I have way too much art to just upload one at a time.
