Excuse me if I have the tendency to bring out the past and comparing stuff,
But in regards to part where FA was hacked and a week worth of files got lost,
And a lot of security measures has been implemented, which in my opinion, inadequate.
Perhaps this recent attack might've been a wake-up call for me that
Even though this site has been a nice place to "know and grow",
I had been staying in a place that is vulnerable and with a false sense of security.
And I had grown attached to this site despite having other accounts from other sites.
And, as I put in my last journal, the consequence that as I had been ignoring my other accounts and I seldom back up my files (at least until 2015),
I ignore posting them due to the lack of time or effort, or internet connection problems.
Like, say, DeviantArt, where I visit from time to time but rarely post even my non-furry sfw art.
And since I came to a thread and let's just say I "stepped close into the fire when I should've avoided it",
I took most of my time here, and gradually on Tumblr as well.
And the other factor is also be internet connection.
It proved to be difficult to post my artwork from other sites
When your neighbour's wi-fi connection gets slow or turns off suddenly.
Or my own mobile connection won't work and I have to place it where the signal is strongest.
Or when it reaches its data limit, whichever comes first.
And the habit of having too many tabs that I oftentimes forget what I'm doing.
That's all I can say for now. Back to FA...
I'm curious; with all it's flaws, ridiculous rules that had been added over the years (yes, I'm annoyed by the fact that I have to cite everything from brush strokes to background textures), and it's swiss-cheese security,
Why do some of it's users come back even from this fiasco, and
How did it manage to survive after years of server hacks and downtimes, while a site like SheezyArt didn't?
What's your comment on this?
FA+

And I also back up my stuff just in case.
It's a fair point.
They kept our passwords encrypted reasonably well so that's good if half the people on here don't use short easily cracked paswords... But saying we can't blame it on the staff who maintain the website is wrong. Especially when you get locked out of your FA account because you can't remember your email address and they didn't have the foresight to put in a way to remind you. lol
plus there were a lot of things your weren't sure of. "allegedly" "assuming" you can't say for 100% sure that they did or did not fix it.
And of course it's allegedly, I don't always trust what I hear from a spokesperson for a website that isn't known for security or uptime. So I don't know why you give a crap about allegedly. I read what they said and it makes sense that imagemagick was a portal, not that they should have given it access to the file system or network so people would be able to steal the source code and so on.
thing is you have no clue what really goes on there. have you never had it at your job where your boss say: you do this and nothing else. but then get blamed for shit by a customer? Well i have. this might as well be the same thing, or maybe something else. sure maybe it was lazyness, maybe it wasn't. you don't know, but acting like a spoiled entitled child isn't going to help no one!
Blame the hackers for doing shit they shouldn't.
