I hate auctions...

Sometimes, someone just has to say it
To be completely honest with you guys, I find auctions to be a negative impact on both the community and the artists. One once and a while is fine, they do tend to generate a decent chunk of change. But when an artist goes all auction after action, I feel like it really limits them and does not broaden their creativity. Like hitting a wall at the gym, you are limited buy your capabilities. There is no one pushing your limits.
But that works with all YCH. I'm more annoyed about how people get shafted by artists they really love and would want to commission.
I make a decent wage and still manage to have some cash after expenses, but Christ I'm not paying over 100$ for a commission unless the artist is really worth it to me. I've stopped watching several artists I loved because all they do is auctions, and from what I see, unless you auto buy, you never win! Every auction starts small with some major AB sum and some fucker with tons of disposable income snatches it up. It, I'm my opinion, is so unfair, a pay to win If you want to think about it. I miss commissions, I miss the artists who gave out decent art at a moderate rate that fit for the average Joe, instead of looking for those with deep pockets. Because I really feel auctions are just for them

I'm really sad shintori , an artist I commissioned frequently, raised her prices into the hundreds, now I may never get to commission her again :(
I'm sorry, but how exactly does giving them complete control over the scene, perspective, and action in the picture, limit their creativity? Legitimately the only thing, THE ONLY THING they don't have control over, is what the characters look like, which is sure as hell better than flat-out commissions where they control absolutely NOTHING, where EVERYTHING is predecided for them, and them adding a flare of creativity of their own to it could spell the commissioner getting angry for 'not doing what they ordered' or 'adding stuff they didn't ask for'.
I'm sorry, but I don't buy it, I personally just think you have a personal grudge against YCHs cause you cannot afford them, and your favorite artists have discovered that it earns them more money per hour for their work, and you find that annoying. I'm sorry, but that's what I'm seeing here, cause your reasons for disliking auctions are pretty much profoundly hypocritical, for not to mention downright wrong.
Let me run it down for you to prove my point:
1) "Waaah they limit their creativity!"
No they don't, they in fact empower their creativity, get more money for their work, and only surrender the design of the characters to the commissioner, the rest is theirs to choose, and is predetermined before the auction even surfaces on the submission page.
2 "Waaah I got shafted by an artist I wanted to commission!"
I'm sorry, but I'm gonna be rude here: Since when did you think artists did this for the commissioner? You know what, they could just say right this moment 'I'm done drawing furry porn, I'm now all about patreon, and I'll draw only MY stuff, and people can donate in order to motivate me to do so.' OR they could even just stop drawing all together. In the end, they have a MILLION opportunities, and drawing commissions for you? That's something they do because THEY want to, not because YOU want them to do it.
Lmao it's this kind of self entitled bullshit that scares TONS of artists away from commissions forever, only to focus SOLELY on personal art and live off of donations rather than commissions.
Examples?
Shadbase
Now naturally I cannot speak for them in terms of what their reasons were, but I can sure as fuck ensure you that self entitled dramafurs with a delusional sense of inherent right to control what an artist does with their time, were a BIG, BIG support in making them either severely limit, or entirely eliminate commissions from their schedules.
BOTTOM line
If an artist doesn't wanna do commissions? That's their choice.
If an artist wants to do tons of YCHs? That's their choice.
If an artist wants to stop drawing art all together? That's their choice.
Everything they do, is their choice.
And they're not shafting ANYBODY for making a decision about what they want to do with their god damn lives! Artwork is not a god damn neccesity, it's a luxury, a luxury not everyone can afford, like sports cars or Rolex watches. Furry art is NO different, it's a needless commodity, and for that exact reason, artists are under NO god damn obligation to ensure they provide a service you somehow think they're by duty responsible for providing to you. it's YOU who's trying to shaft them by making them feel self concious and nervous for having this exact reaction to them deciding whats best for the security of their livelihood.
But adoptables? Adoptables are different. Not a huge fan of them, but hey, if people like them? More power to them.
I don't give a fuck if someone choices to do nothing but YCH auctions, they do what ever the hell they want to do to raise money. I will simply not follow them. I am in no way going after the artists but the practice it's self.
I am making an OPINIONATED journal on why I don't like auctions. IF you want to take it so personally that you just start mocking the person you disagree with, then don't even bother typing. Because while I respect your choice to disagree, I don't see the point in just bad mouthing the other person for their opinion. Because guess what, THIS ISN'T CONCRETE FACTS.
You also can't speak for everyone who participates in these YCH's. Some people really do feel shafted, and end up never able to get art from an artist they like. So to sit here and call me out for feeling shafted myself and saying something about it, makes you seem like a bigot.
Oh and by the way, Wolfy-nail stated in several of his journals that he was tired of doing it for what, 15 years? Don't quote me on the years but I do know He has been around for more than 10. I would get tired of drawing furry porn too had I been in his shoes.
I am also pretty sure Shadbase is still taking commissions, just on on FA.
Vader-san even has stated he is closed because of his current work load.
Evilart has been uploading commissions over the last month.
What you call drama is someone stating an OPINION on something they disagree with. You chose to click this page and read it. You chose to take offense and react. Whos the dramafur?
