Rude Shit

We went to a local furry meetup/party today which has been my first time going to something like that for years. It was-- interesting?? People-- were kinda really rude and stuff. I actually had someone come up while I was drawing say "DRAW ME" and shoving their badge in my face?? I kinda just looked away and didn't respond because I got really scared about how to react, haha;;. I haven't had that happen in a long time either.
We got to hold a skunk though! They are adorable. There was also a baby coyote and a fox. I would have gone up to pet them-- but the crowd was ridiculous and mean about it. I felt bad for the animals;; My spouse went up to go pet the animals and I guess they and my other friend were waiting patiently to hold them and other people kept legitimately muscling their way past them or just snatching the animals from each other??
Just- rude. I cannot believe. It just sucks cause we want more furry friends, but after this event I don't really know if I want to try locally again. Maybe we just had a fluke experience? Everyone else seemed to have a pretty good time. Ah. Social gatherings always make me get nervous and doubt myself.

On the flip side, conventions have gotten nicer? While they've grown in size more people are aware about things like consent and how to treat others so making friends has gotten easier.
But yeah meets suck. >_> I used to go monthly and I've only gone twice this year. People don't know boundaries, grab at my fursuits or demand free ones.
That is cool that conventions have gotten better at least! That makes me definitely want to at least try to go and experience one. Going back to the mooching, I notice there is a hell of a lot of GIVE ME FREE ART demands in this fandom more than any other fandoms I have been in and it is irritating. But like-- demanding free fursuits?? That is nuts, lol. I am sorry you have to put up with that.
especially at fan-based events
people tend to completely lose their sense of how to be decent human beings (it's especially bad at conventions of any kind pretty much)
