IM BACK HOME and what the hec is FN im intrigued
9 years ago
I had a lovely time with my girlfriend peachie-pie and my family at WDW and Universal Orlando for a week and a half. I feel so refreshed... I don't know if anyone besides Peaches really knew how stressed I was before going. It had been building up for over a year and anything could make me panic, from commissions and finances to what I was going to eat for breakfast or waking up an hour later than I wanted to. I don't know if the trip helped or if it's my new meds, probably both-- staying away from the internet could also have been a factor- but I feel awesome. I feel calm and pleasant and not too anxious. For now, haha.
I have to thank my followers and especially those commissioning me for helping make this trip a wonderful experience. At the last second I was able to fund my meals and a comfortable amount of souvenirs thanks to some generous customers and I can't thank you enough. I realize that theme park trips, especially to Disney and Universal, are nowadays a luxury, not to mention being able to come home with keepsakes, but it really does mean a lot to me. The exceptional service they offer at Disney always allows me to fully relax and feel more in control of my day, as opposed to feeling dirt poor and at the mercy of each new commission. Whether or not I could get this same result from cheaper escapes doesn't always matter to me- there's something about these rare splurges that I can share with those closest to me that are a little extra helpful to my morale. I grew up making very positive memories at Disneyland and Universal Hollywood with my family and it's something that has really stuck with me over the years.
If you're interested in what I picked up, the short answer is that I bought a lot (a loooot) of cat-themed items and tea from EPCOT, and not nearly as much from Universal/Islands of Adventure. Wizarding World way overprices their merch, which is kind of disheartening. I always want their ink and quill items and this trip I discovered their wax seals and quidditch merch, but to put together one Ravenclaw wax seal (seal, handle) was going to run me like $45, not including the wax which was $15 for a standard small candle-- I feel like that's not much more expensive than a lot of companies will charge for the same items, but I also feel like I can buy the same amount of wax for $4 and charging $15 for a small wooden handle is hard to sell me on??? So I grabbed some wizarding chocolates and called it a day. Whoof.
Anyhow, thank you for indulging me this journal. I normally try to keep these short but sometimes I like the idea of opening up a little bit more to you guys, since normally I'm so private. Sometimes I just like talking a little bit about how I've been. Thank you if you've read through this journal- nobody has to, obviously, but it's nice to imagine I'm not saying all of this to an empty room.
Also, furry network? What did I miss? I'm thinking of signing up. I like starting with clean slates and to be honest I just... really like the idea of any possible alternative to FA. /this site is garbagé and I really wish the community could settle elsewhere on the same scale... blah blah nothing yall haven't heard before. If I do start an account there, I'll let you guys know.

FA+

To be honest, I really hope FN in its current form doesn't catch on.
Don't get me wrong, there are some nice things, especially for artists
and uploading, and it allows for videos and larger uploads. But trying
to navigate it is a headache and a chore, not to mention it eats up
resources on your computer like crazy. Just to save a pic I have to
open it three times and open another window. I can't browse through
pictures like here or other furry sites, I have to view all pictures at
once, loading a batch at a time which drags my computer down to a
crawl. I can't clear a certain number at a time and let the new ones
load, the only option clears the entire inbox! To quote someone
else "it really feels like they're trying to to be facebook than an
art site".
I can't help but feel its the 'site of the moment' after the hacker
attack on FA. (Seems awful convenient for FN, but I won't get
into that) If another site's going to rise above FA I would hope
it would be a site with a browsing format like inkbunny or weasly.
Not to mention all the drama people are getting into over FN
changing their site rules to ban cub art.
In other words, I would say try it out and browse around and
see if you like it before using it. They do have a handy import
tool to load your stuff from FA, but if you decide to do so, I
would recommend doing it the moment you create an account
there. It floods any watchers inbox when you do so. I had
over 1500 pieces in my inbox after someone did that after
I watched them (and they advertised their account their) and
I wasn't about to try and browse through all those uploads
so I just cleared everything. Who knows what else I missed?
I do worry this is another site of the moment as you say, I always think it's a bummer when a site booms with migrations from FA but then dies out not long after. I think it'd be a shame for the site to falter while it's still in beta.
I don't mind FN, I signed up recently and it seems a lot more professional than fA? Or dA for that matter. It reminds me of being really open but easy to manage. I really like that import function because not only does it bring over your art, but your watchers and watches. So it was pretty nice to start with some following rather than 0.
I haven't seen any drama about the cub thing honestly? Like I am really glad they removed that art and banned it altogether because it's really gross haha. So I haven't seen anything like it, like you would see of some stuff here?
But yeah! It's always good to get a feel for it, scope it out to see if you feel comfortable with it and give it a go. I personally like it, it seems more professional to me so thats where I keep my better looking art. ovob, Plus FN is still in its beta stages so new things are to come and it's always growing and listening to feedback from it's userbase unlike FA here LOL.
Also yes despite Florida having literally the worst weather I did have a LOT of fun ;w;
FLORIDA IS GROSS AND MUGGY ALL ITS GOOD FOR IS ORANGES >:U and universal studios and disneyland i think thats where thats at i mean disnworl LOL
But yeah, I unno I like the site alot and it's kind of nice different pace.
i've been liking FN ok so far! i like that you can upload stuff as drafts, i like that you can import from FA... ofc its not very active yet but, you know, we'll see. i'd definitely like to see other sites replace FA that is for sure :/
god same... so far it seems like its on its way to being a better option.
we all need some of those, it' the best thing ever when you're feeling burned out
needa be a happy rappy~
