Typically, if one is given permission to upload their art on their gallery and does so, but also wants to post it onto a second gallery later on, is it considered proper etiquette to ask everyone again for permission to do so?

I'd rather not be on the receiving end of art permissions social justice or anything for an innocent mistake, so I wanted to ask and make sure. It's probably a silly question, but the one time I assume something is okay...

I'd assume it would be fine as long as the same credit/care was given as the first. But I guess it depends on the artist. :)

From my experiences, it's generally fine in most cases without needing to ask per site you wish to upload it to. However, there have been exceptions. Notably, a few artists I've commissioned kindly request that commissioners don't re-upload to Tumblr and/or DeviantART for example.

"When in doubt, ask" - so I'd imagine that if you have your doubts, it'd be the polite thing to do if you're not sure :>

I would assume it's okay in most cases, but I guess at first you should ask if they mind you uploading it to your "galleries." Plural, that way they understand it's going up several places.

Right, which I would do. Though I'm wondering if I want to post it on another gallery like, months later, if I should go back and ask again?

In most cases, the nature of commissioned work will automatically imply certain rights for the person who commissioned the work. It's extremely rare, for example, for an artist to draw someone's character and then object to the image being posted in the customer's gallery/galleries, since it's usually assumed that this is the primary purpose of the art in the first place (as opposed to commercial use or any purpose that typically involves royalties).

In this case, if you've already asked for, and received, express permission to post commissioned art in one of your galleries, it's safe to assume that this permission will automatically extend to any other galleries you've created for similar purposes.

Of course, if you're sufficiently paranoid (and don't mind making it obvious), you can feel free to ask again and remove all doubt. I don't believe that's necessary, though.

Just remember to credit the artist!
