Much more user friendly than the previous edition. There was a taboo about runnin' deckers for so long 'cause we use to play 2nd edition (what drek!)
Now we just hate on Technomancers instead! x3

Yeah, I heard about that. Seems like Deckers used to be quite broken before 5th. Can't say for myself though, I only started with 5th.
SURGE stands for something like Sudden Unexplained Recessive Genetical Expression or so, I believe? It started in 2061 and was similiar to the Goblinisation (which was when Peple strated to mutate into Orcs and Trolls for the first time), but much more random. Basically, it caused all kinds of random metahumans to mutate into all kinds of stuff, and at harshly varying degrees as well. Some only got cat-ears, others changed entirely and so on. As for rules, it doesn't really affect a character much, just forces you to pick some additional Advantages and Disadvantages from a seperate pool, but it allows for a hell of a lot of additional customization (and also paints a massive bulls eye onto your characters chest, because we all know how tolerant and accepting the 6th world is of people who look different). Allows me to play an illusion-shaman who is a kitsune for instance :3

We are still derping around in Seatle. Seemed the best choice for a party of first time Shadowrun-players ^^

Not so much "broken" but with no wireless they had to connect to everythin' by standin' next to it or close enough by n they'd just eat up roleplay time 'cause it always took forever to do matrix actions.
N that is REALLY cool, actually. I know there's that weird virus that turns people in to Vampires n stuff n some animals have it (Like DROP BEARS!) as well as that nano-virus that slowly turns people in to cyborgs.
Oooh yis I'm VERY familiar with the lore, I actually GM'd an idea with another group where everythin' happened PRE-Awakenin', before the Mayan Calendar. Then magic burst in to the world n some of the party randomly goblinised. Would love to do that again.

Oh yeah, those viruses :3 They aren't related to SURGE, but yeah, those do exist as well. SSVV and KFS they're called, if I am not mistaken? I didn't bother looking them up ^^ Actually, playing around with those viruses might be fun as well. I should include them in my adventures more often :3
And howdy, that's a bit of an idea if I've ever seen one! Playing out goblinisation? That's ought to be fun, right? ^^
