Anthrocon, like all other conventions, is a chance to meet people who are otherwise text on a screen, or maybe a JPEG. It is a place to view artwork, purchase magazines, commission artwork, and the like.
It is a place to learn the finer points of all manner of artwork (I myself particularly enjoyed the panels on writing).
Mr Initial summed it up well. that and well. its probably the biggest fur gathering in the US i'd reckon. At least I think it is. :S iT does sound like a good deal of furs go there. a few thousand was it?
Fursuits, seeing tons of art, meeting the artists, panels, the fursuit parade, buying all kinds of furry goodies and meeting ppl in general. All that's missing is some rides.Better than Disneyworld
Well, you meet plenty of folks especially a few artists in person for the first time. Especially those that are unable to make to your con at your neck of the woods. check out who's coming http://www.anthrocon.org/dealer/map , and those not listed will be in the artist alley. Nifty people, make new friends, delicious food, and also you get to see the fireworks this year.

But the big thing is meeting others.
