Hi, my amazing watchers on FA. I hope I'm not boring you too much. As you know this is the first journal I'm writing since I had been to the most amazing convention I had ever been in as a fursuiter yet. And that is of course this years Supernova in Sydney.
I kid you not. Even though that here in the east coast of Australia, it was expected that there was going to be another low which could potentially bring cold winds, rain, and in some areas, a winter storm complete with flash flooding. And ironically it was expected unfortunately from last Friday to Sunday with the worse for it happen on the last day. But thank god mother nature behaved herself as it hardly rained. That is as I went to that very convention. And that means I did not have to wait till I arrived to the cosplay convention before I suit up.
As a matter of fact the weather was so perfect that I could put the body on and I would not get wet thus ruin the suit before I left home to catch the Newcastle to Sydney train. But I did not had any part of my Umbreon fursuit on. Just my under armour, thongs or what some of you call flip flops and street clothes. I was wearing winter apparel because it was around 6.00am and it was freezing. BTW, I was carrying 2 bags for myself. A backpack with some essential equipment to take with me going suiting including 2 bottles of Powerade, and brush. Plus my phone and a camera as I were making a con video while I was there. Umbreon was in a separate bag the I also carried with me.
I ended up driving to the station as my dad who was dropping me off was suspecting to be at least barely tipsy from drinking beers the previous night. Turns out when I got there thankfully I weren't the only person in the local train station. as a matter of fact. Sure I may be the only suiter in the trains going to and from Nova but I wasn't the only cosplayer boarding.
Now fast forward to near this time I actually changed. As I recall. The train was approaching the NSW Central Coast. And I met this interesting middle aged to somewhere in the mid to late 50's. I was told by the lady or the male to move one of my bags off the seats. That is the big carry on bag with the fursuit in it. Not the backpack as that's on the overhead compartment. Forcibly, I did and apologised. As the couple were looking for a seat. I explained why the bag is on the seats in front of me. And then I opened the bag revelling Umbreon's head and just then I stript my street clothes revealing my under armour. And suited as this very Pokémon.
The majority of the passengers in this carriage was in awe as it happened. I now am my pokesona. Including this lady I chat to on the train about Supernova, People got there phones out. Taking picture of me. The lady said she wanted her daughter or grandkids to know who or what is sitting behind her as they are huge Pokémon fanatics. That's what she claimed. The Asian teens on the train who saw me were amazed at this costume. Like wow. It is awkward suiting up on a moving train and in pubic transport but I was confident about how suitable the wether is going to be for me in suit that I just did it anyway.
Now fast forward to the time I actually arrived at Sydney Olympic Park and I was at the front of the train station and as I was preparing myself, some guy came to me asking for selfie with me. I said sure as long he get's patient of me fully in suit which he was. He got what he wanted and I was on my way to the actual venue of the convention. Along side with the fan mobs that came with it. I find it very flattering.
But the people were yelling out Umbreon, Umbeon. I waved. And finally I was in the building despite the other awkwardness of having to get a wristband and having to go through a curtain door. So frustrating. Regrettably even thought I had my wallet with me, I didn't have cash out. And there is this photo op I was eying of which I had to pay cash for. And I thought this could be my only chance to remotely have a decent photo in suit. But this photography table don't accept card payments. But I really wanted to have a picture taken in suit. So I left my bags took my wallet to the nearest ATM. Where I had to pay a $2 surcharge to only get $50 out. And return. Out of Hindsight I should have got $100 in cash out before I gone.
Don't get me wrong. I love getting pictures taken as a Pokémon. Or in fursuit in the matter. Let it be selfies, a group photo with other people and with kids. I love kids. Not as in paedophile like. And love entertaining people.
But that's not all things amazing about Supernova. Even though it's a cosplay convention, I'm more exited on the fact that this is the first time I met other furries in real life and the majority of them in fursuit. Not just other cosplayers but other fursuiters. I had met and I was exited as kid in a toyshop. I had got myself in a fur pile a couple of times. 1 is a dog with wings that I did shenanigans with. Another fullsuiter as a matter of fact. I high 5ed him, I saw an actual dutch angel dragon fursuiter which I had a chat to. A dogs BTW. It was amazing. Meeting other furs. Also I had a chance to speak to an unsuited furry who is wearing a tail who is a fox named as I remembered
DragonovX. sometimes I like to read their badges to learn the names.
Another interesting group of people that I meet is an Eevee group. That included a Vaporion, Glacion, Flareion, Espion and get this, another umbreon but he was a normal version. Not a shiny like me.
I could explain some more thing about the things I experiences at Supernova, both the good and the bad. Mostly good. But as I write this piece, I still have a little con crud and again some form of con dep as there are people I could've meet who are the celebrities and other interesting cosplayers like the one who is suiting as Bowser. And this Raptor named Foxtrot. Plus there was other art I could've commission for of my sonas like a chibis of both Bruzo and Umbreon. Things I could've brought as gifts for my brothers and myself as souvenirs for myself besides just some picture I paid for of me in suit as a Shiny Umbreon on a flash drive. I could go on and on about my experiences in Supernova like a memoir or essay. I'm thinking of going next year but hopefully as a part of a fur group. Hopefully I could go for all 3 days cosplaying as 3 characters including 2 of my primary sonas and perhaps Job out of Lawnmower Man. So if you got comments or questions about this awesome experience I had you are more than welcome to submit them.
