"Fat Fauna In The Funnies: An OVER THE HEDGE Collection"
Last month, I had posted a list of links to various 'fat furry' gags from the comic strip "Pluggers" (drawn by Gary Brookins). This month, I thought I'd post a new list of links to a number of 'fat furry' gags from another popular comic strip: "Over The Hedge" by the team of Michael Fry & T. Lewis...
When I first saw the syndicated comic back in the early 1990s, I was already a suburbanite (living in Elmont, New York), and I often wished I that some of the anthropomorphic critters would invade my backyard... especially 'R.J.' the raccoon, who loves to 'pig out' on grilled Summer BBQ meals, Halloween candy, Thanksgiving leftovers, and (of course) his favorite 'vegetable', Twinkies!
(NOTE: I'd heard in the news that Hostess - the makers of Twinkies - had recently acquired the Playboy mansion in California... No doubt, Messrs. Fry & Lewis will have a field day with their strip, getting their rotund raccoon out west, in the hope that he'll get to schmooze with Hugh Hefner, while wolfing down Twinkie after Twinkie!)
I even recall one of the first times I saw 'R.J.' in a shape so obese, he looked like he was immobile - and yet, he was still capable of rolling himself away... usually ending up on top of 'Verne' the turtle! (You can see that gag in the out-of-print, second softcover anthology, "Over The Hedge 2" - published by Andrews and McMeel.)
Anyway, here are some links to gags with 'R.J.' in various stages of fatness, from the last two years of "Over The Hedge" strips - coming directly from the "GoComics" website:

And, lest you think that 'R.J.' is the only one in "OTH" who sports a big belly, here are the links to two strips in which 'Hammy' the squirrel gets swollen with water...

ADDENDA: I'd just learned today (6-28-16) about the passing of syndicated cartoonist Fred Wagner, whose credits include the comic strip "Animal Crackers" - which features the occasional 'fat furry' gag revolving around elephants, hippos, and sated snakes. Time permitting, I hope to present another edition of "Fat Fauna In The Funnies" with some of the best gags of these burly beasties from "Animal Crackers" in the near future...
