Warning! This review may contain some spoilers since there are some points that I need to explain to prove a point about this film. So please tread lightly~!
Review:WHOO! COWABUNGA DUDES~! Here I am finally having seen the newest TMNT movie TMNT: Out of the Shadows. Not to be confused with that horrible video game with the same title. (...well, maybe not horrible, but it wasn't very good.)
So yeah! I went and saw the film with my best friend and whoo did a enjoy the hell out of this movie! It was even better than the first one in 2014.
Sooooo what can I say?
Well, first of all I loved how the turtles had the majority of screen time. That was a major improvement in my book. Their designs are so much nicer to look at this time and their personalities are even more distinct in this film - which is fantastic! And Jeebus you just wanted to hug these precious babies. OAO
Splinter of course- always a joy. I loved how he gave advice to Leonardo at times to have father/son conversations. It was sweet.
Megan Fox being April again of course - she was very likable! I loved her in this film. She was a great character and I could tell that Megan was having fun with this role. So good job~!
Stephen Amell as Casey Jones. Now you all know that I'm not much for Jones, but I gotta say that I LOVED HIM! He was extremely likable and rather awesome~! Honestly probably my favorite version of Casey up to date.
Will Arnett being Vernon again - I really liked him like I did in the previous film. It was nice to see him be a key part of this film to help connect things and move on with the plot. And yet still very likable. ^^
Tyler Perry being Baxter Stockman - people were hesitant about this, but honestly? I loved him! He did a great job playing the character of Stockman! So awesome job, Mr. Perry~! I knew you could do it!
Bebop and Rocksteady - they were a hoot! ...although sometimes I will admit some of their... er... humor... made me face palm. But still! I really liked them. It was wonderful to see them on the big screen for the first time ever.
-sigh- ...Karai was just... there. Same as the first movie. VERY unfortunate. I wish they would do more with her.
Krang I did like - he looked pretty cool based on design and such. I thought he was pretty cool and it was nice to see him on the big screen for the first time, too!
Shredder... I liked him, but my God. They needed to do MORE with him. What do I mean? Well I'm going to spoil something right now - so don't read this next line if you don't want to be spoiled.
The turtles do not fight Shredder even once in this film. Krang betrays Shredder and freezes him and puts him in a capsule thing. WHAT THE HELL?! Aw come on! I wanted to see an epic battle of them teaming up against the turtles and THEN he would backstab Shredder. THAT to me would have made it more impactful. So unfortunate.
That was my real big complaint.
But my best friend and I discussed something else about this film.
I love this movie a hell of a lot. I really do, but there were plot elements that kind of were rushed.
[spoiler]The turtles have one plot where they could become human. Donnie discovers this and Leo does not want Donnie to tell Mikey or Raph about this. Mikey of course hears this and tells Raph. Then the shit hits the fan when Raph confronts Leo about this.
Then later after the Brazil mission being a fail - they get into a fight.
When they get back home they seem very silent towards each other. But then within seconds - back to being a team. ...what? That's it? No talk? No apologizing to each other like bros? That was off to me.
Then the whole turn human plot comes up right after that and Leo lets everyone decide what to do. To which Raph takes the purple mutagen kind of stuff and throws it to break it.
Really the whole human plot was not needed in my opinion. They could have gotten rid of that and focused more on the brotherhood.[/spoilers]
There were a lot of laughs and a lot of moments that touched my heart whether from something sweet or something sad. Like Mikey's reaction to being referred to as a monster. God... Mikey being sad is like illegal. Not to mention - the action was through the roof amazing! Even better than the first movie sequences!
But regardless of the plot issues - I really loved this movie. I would love to watch the hell out of it again! And I plan to get the movie when it's out and continue to watch the other films.
So to sum it up - if you're a big TMNT fan - you will really enjoy it! My best friend isn't as big of a TMNT fan as myself, but she liked it more than she thought she would! So if you have a best friend that loves you even with you being a crazy TMNT fan - they'll like it too! XD
So go out there and watch this movie!
Oh and nothing happens after the credits, btw. Just sit for the first song during the first half of the credits. You will not be disappointed~!
Well, I think that about wraps it up for my review of this movie. I am SO glad I got to see it! And I plan to finally do TMNT ART AGAIN! EVERYONE START SCREAMING! AAAAAAH!!! <333
Thank you for reading, and COWABUNGA~!

Well said my lady. I share the same complaints you do. The movie was a MAJOR improvement over the first, but lacked... a few things, many of which you nailed in your analysis so I don't need to repeat anything already said. I can only hope despite the current low-box office returns currently Nick isn't discouraged from making more TMNT movies. One can hope they put more effort into improving the live action films.

OP
That's why I posted a review to hopefully get others to want to see it. ^^ They are signed for other movies I heard. I hope they actually happen because there were a lot of improvements!

If they continue the improvements we've seen and find that 'heart' that made the original films so good, they'll win back the crowd. I want them too.

They seem to be gradually going towards the right direction. I felt more nostalgia during the 2nd film than the first even though I do like the first one of the newer gen films.

I've stopped going to Bay films. Everything he touches becomes a polished turd with as many product placements as possible.
