Anthrocon 2016 -- A Quickie DayTwo Update
9 years ago
A little late for the art staff breakfast but still there! I saw the hotel restaurant took my favorite breakfast off of the menu, eggs Benedict over salmon over wilted spinach with Hollandaise sauce! Thankfully others liked it too and the restaurant was able to make them off the menu special. I of course got gypped on sauce, but along with an extra side of bacon I still liked what I had! ShiroTora and Arc, two veteran staffers who have the best stories and the loudest voices entertained everyone for nearly the entire time. No idea what I'll have tomorrow, tempted to get the same thing. After all it's only once a year .......
I wasn't due on the floor for awhile so I hit the zoo for a bit and realized I didn't bring any reference pictures at all, so I couldn't draw a thing, dammit. And I bought a new sketchbook and everything.
Hit the Dealer's Den and chatted with some folks. Anthrocon staff got an extra gift this year, along with an AC messenger bag that's incredibly cool on its own, we also got a sketchbook, hard cover with a spiral binder, with a Lackadaisy character head on the cover in gold. I asked Roz Gibson to break it in for me, outside of the commission I'm due from Max Blackrabbit it pretty much tapped me out. Of course I also left my huge back of trail mix in the room so breakfast had to hold me until dinner.
I spent most of the afternoon -- actually, all of my shift -- watching the door to the mature section, making sure no minors tried to slide in, and none did. Picked up my sketchbook from Roz after my shift. They didn't need me to help close out the mature section so I opted for an early dinner at Pizza Roma; staff members get a coupon for two really big slices of pizza plus a beverage. Ran into Arc there, then in walks
chubbyjosephine and friend, we all visited until our food was up and went back to The Zoo to consume and visit more. But I had to sit outside The Zoo to charge my phone, which was on the road to dying on me.
Uncle Kage's Story Hour was funny as usual, I just wish he wouldn't ostracize members of his audience by opening his yap on politics. He ended his show with a cool story about his father who recently passed away. Then I saw my cell phone was dead.
After Story Hour my phone was down to 6% battery life. I plugged in to an outlet and sat on the floor texting my wife, who was at our niece's wedding reception in Cleveland until, despite being plugged in, battery dropped 3 percent more. And I didn't want to sit there all day. So I signed off of her and let it die on me while I rode the escalator down to The Zoo and again sat outside of it charging my phone. Finally got a small enough charge to get up, I was tired of missing out on things. Went to Zoo and bumped into SirFox, went and sketched a little gagged bunny doe bust for someone's FA contribution box for the hell of it. Off to the hotel to a table to meet and greet people and charge my phone, THEN back to Zoo to fetch my water botte. THEN back to the hotel lobby. Met a new fursuiter from Tulsa at his first con and we chatted for a good while before I left to drive to my hotel to write this up and turn in. With luck I'll get a little under 6 hours sleep tonight before I get up to pack up and check out and go to breakfast. Busy day in the art show tomorrow!!

Sorry you couldn't find us, these huge cons are like getting swept away down a river. If it makes you feel any better I had to sit behind some really tall guy and all I saw for the whole thing was his bald spot!
