Ghost in the... wth?

So i'm sure we've all heard by now that Scar Jo is playing Major Motoko Kusanagi(or the american named equivalent of her HOPEFULLY) in the upcoming live action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell coming March 2017. Aside from the fact we hard core fans are extremely pissed with the white washing of a japanese character in this adaptation for the fact that it can "connect" with the audience more and bring in more money which I am very sure Hollywood has been more concerned with in the past decade of film making and not taking many risks. But to also hear that the manga publisher is all for the white washing of the characters just so the series can gain more attraction to the unknowing masses annoys me even further..
I guess art and authenticity of the story will always be the casualty when it comes to money when you bring it to the big screen eh?

Your beef isn't with the casting behind the live-action GitS movie. It might be with all of anime and manga, or perhaps with how the economy shaped Japan's future after World War II, or even with the conformist values espoused in Confucianism.
*sigh* It just tells me that they probably don't care much for the original material and we are in for a stupid action movie with no depth at all instead of a real postcyberpunk world, all it's problems and some philosphy.
Well, that's what happened in the past with similar adaptions and remakes.
If they are smart (I doubt it), Motoko takes on a caucasian cyborg body for some undercover mission in the movie, which can be tied into the question of how the body influences the mind and identity.
(In all seriousness, it is disappointing what films will degrade themselves like this)
Ghostbusters all over again. If the original team tried to make a sequel and fail what makes them think that they can reboot it better? Shame.
A sad day.
Honestly, I think this brings up some good points.
Also, in the arguement of having Mokoto being white... anyone who's watched the series might note that the character herself probably wouldn't care what ethnicity her shell is... since whatever works works for her. After all, her body is not real... it's a full-prosthetic cybernetic body.
Some manga roles wouldn't make any sense if they were portrayed by Asian actors, like the majority of the roles of FMA, where Amestris is heavily influenced by Nazi Germany. Edward Elric has blond hair. Asian characters are depicted in the series and they look totally different from the many white looking characters, not jsut with the eyes, but also in clothing, mannerisms, etc.
Basically, i'm sick and tired of this racist idea of white washing anime. If you're going to criticize anything, criticize the acting ability of the actors, the production value, how closely they follow the source material, etc.
