Its a game, mostly. You do stuff in your career, different thing depending on what you chose to do. The forums and chat have been closed due to some problems.

I'd recommend for a character making an Explorer. It'll get you money and trade goods that'll help you set up other trades.

I made an explorer, and I've gone around and found some materials, but I guess I'm just not sure what to do from that point forward? Do I sell the materials or make stuff out of them?

Either. I sold em up til I needed em. Still working through all the seeds atm I foraged.

I would suggest trying to get up to 4 villagers. Then you can have multiple careers going on at once. What I did at first was get 2 explorers to build up my stock and money. Then, because it was the career path I was most interested in, I made an herbalist and doctor. To date I also have an alchemist, breeder, and warrior as well. Breeders are actually really fun cus you find cute animals that you can tame and the sell or equip to villagers as pets. For certain careers you will need to go to the town hall and buy recipes to make stuff from materials.

A big suggestion I would make it you sell on the market is to first look at the item. There's a value on that item that you will actually get if you sell back to the server. The market is REALLY imbalanced right now, so for some items, unless you plan to use them, it's better just to sellback. Also, the game is in beta, and there's a good change everything will be reset for full release, so if you do get premium money (costs real money) only buy premium items with it! Only premium items will be safe from reset! (painties and items purchased from premium store.)
