Character Theft Protection - Owner registry.
Hello Watchers! Hope you are all having a great day!
I have been trying to think of a way to make art theft of my designs more difficult (though I don't think its very common tbh)
What do you guys think of an owner registry where you can easily look up a design of mine, and see who the current owner is? It would have to be something where users can easily comment to upgrade the character's ownership status whenever it is sold/traded/gifted etc.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could make something like this?
Thanks!!
-SeskataUPDATE: I'm think maybe I will assign every design of mine a number, then make a google doc with info for each character (#, short description, owner, link to the design in my gallery)
Then when a character changes hands the seller/buyer can let me know and I'll update the doc.
Does this seem like it would work? Any simpler ideas? haha

I agree with
Akkadian - in making a googledoc
However if you are looking for something else, I recommend trying to keeping a record via dropbox which I've seen some other artist do. They keep a copy of the design in a colder and name the folder/ file after the person that has adopted them. I'd also ask some gifts, trades, or resells (if you allow such) a design to inform you so you can make changes to ownership that way.
To be honest, both are basically just filing systems hahaha XD
Not too sure if there is a good site or host at all really....That would be something to really look into though now that this has gotten me thinking about it.
In other words, why would I trust it?
Still, should be easier to vet than Trusted Artists (which is a joke, there's artists there I wouldn't trust).
I mean you sold them the designs, so if they then get the stuff stolen that is hardly your fault or problem, right? :V Car manufacturers don't have to care if car owners get their ride stolen, for instance.
Or wait, do you run this on the basis of licensing the designs to the buyer, but retaining ownership? Then that may be your problem indeed, still. First time I've heard anyone have this idea so I'm wondering!
If they exist, they'll start to wander off into the hands of third parties. Just seems to be in their nature.
This one is mine. :)
