I adore Andrew Bird/Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire.

But "indie"? Wow. Er. Not to be a musicfag or anything but, Andrew Bird's music is .. pretty distinctly not indie.

That's what his music is listed as on a number of sites. I dunno. I just consider indie to be more of a wild card class. His style is unique and interesting, and I really like that in music.

Oh. Sorry, I just now looked up the term. I always thought it was just a class of music that didn't necessarily fit into normal categories. Whoops.

Hahah, it's okay. It can be used to mean an independent artist, or -- much more frequently in the past ten years -- as a genre. A lot of people call a lot of different types of music "indie" because they don't know what to call it, I guess?
Andrew Bird -- if you listen to Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, it's swing revival. His solo work continues to draw from a variety of influences like swing does, so you'll get traces of a lot of different genres throughout, but he definitely falls into the pop category; the most accurate description/classification (in my opinion) that I've heard for his solo work is baroque pop.
Indie, as far as a genre, is.. Modest Mouse is indie. The Flaming Lips. Early Rilo Kiley... some Julie Doiron. The Stars, The Wrens.

You, my fine friend, have an amazing taste in music. I'm hooked, and he's having a concert july 10th in LA and I can't wait to go!
