The eternal ten year old will never go off the show, Ash/ Satoshi has won the Orange league and battle frontier already. Any major league story line tend to have him in the top five. He has been ten for 17 years! That money making machine will likely lose, again. I think, when the artist or voice actor retires or dies we will see a new main character. It is not likely to so poor of ratings that they replace him. The replacement will likely be cut and paste on the usual script.

Or just time skip and make Ash the new Brock for the group.

This is kinda the reason why I stopped watching the Pokemon anime. Until I see Ash get replaced by some other antagonist, I'm done with that show forever. At least I still have my Pokemon games.
