my favorite character is most definitely Garnet, though design wise my favorite is, so far, smoky!

I'm a fan! My fave character is Greg for all the stuff he deals with and his surprisingly wonderful singing voice. I think the tones and humor are great and I laughed my head off at Peridot hopping around sticking her tongue out t the sky. She looked just like an alien frog! I'm happy to see where it will go and just how much more creative it can get with various other gems and story elements.

I love the song he was singing when he first met Rose. Not as impressive as a burger jingle, but that worked out pretty well ^_^

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE STEVEN UNIVERSE! I hope we get a Lapidot fusion (poor Lapis has been through so much) I really wanna see more gem fusions with Steven though!

I would. Not really surprised-surprised, because I know it's going to happen, maybe, eventually. But I'd be surprised if she WANTS to fuse with him. Garent's view on fusion is a lot more scared then the show has been treating it as of late. But she's still getting super excited. I think that's an character trait they've really jack-knife shoe-horned in, and it really is to a level and frequency that doesn't support the rest of her character, BUT. I don't see her fusing with Steven within the next 5 stories, because that's what they do, introducing us to elements but then side-tracking them with other storylines, but rather it's a shark-jumping moment or not is still up in the air. It has to be, it's going to be a moment of deep stress, like when Garnet allowed Pearl to fuse with her again in the trap ship, or when Jasper fused with Lapis. There won't be a whole eps leading up to it, like Opal, but there will still be drama built into it, and it needs to be amazing, like the second Alexandrite (the fight with Malachite)... not the first.

At last, I've seen a theory about Lion that makes too much sense to not be true.

I freaked out SO HARD at the end of season 3 and the whole Jasper/Amethyst/Steven thing. LIKE OOOOOORGH.

Also it's adorable that Peridot is learning that she does have abilities and stuff.

But no, the series is great. I love how -every- character gets better and knows more as time goes on.

One more thing. Season 4 episode 2....Garnet's face is just...FUCKING PERFECT. That massive, giddy grin as Pearl is just -freaking- out.

It almost perfectly mirrored the look she had when she met Stevani. It would appear that our favorite 'power couple' might have a bit of a 'fusion fetish.' Ms. 'cool as ice' practically SQUEES upon seeing a new fusion, and it also explains Sardonyx's actions inside the temple: Pear was confused and wanted someone to 'explain everything,' Garnet was still in the midst of a joygasm from seeing a new fusion. So Garnet was doing most of the 'driving' of Sardonyx, fit focused on the 'explain everything' vibe echoing through her mind.

Sardonyx was also influenced by Pearl's 'need to know'. So Garnet's excitement and Pearl's obsessiveness sort of...went overboard when they fused. Kinda felt bad for Smokey...but everything worked out in the end!

Now I can't help but wonder what Steven would look like fused with...well any of them. Or...all of them o..o;; But I suppose that'd be something that happens far down the line, if at all.

The way they've developed the characters is really impressive. When you look at Steven in the first season and compare him to what he is now, he's come a long way. And they haven't all progressed in a positive way; Jasper went from a supremely powerful soldier to a snarling animal. It's development like that that makes the show so compelling.

Right! And even how you keep discovering new things about Rose too.

I do like how it shows you can't save, or make friends with everyone too. It's a nice dynamic. Keeps you guessing, because you truely don't know if someone's going to 'join' or not until it happens.

(drops into Sardonyx voice) "Yes, Seven Universe, seen it, lived it, loved it..."

It's been hard to find fellow furs to enjoy the show with; most seem to be more focused on MLP, Star vs the Forces of Evil, or T.U.F.F. Puppy. All good shows, but they refuse to explore darker themes, and SU has gotten a really dark undertone since we started meeting Homeworld Gems.

Adventure Time and Steven Universe are two of the best animated, post-apocalyptic, coming-of-age stories I've ever seen. Miyazaki's influence is clear too, especially since his work was frequently about finding your way in a world that makes little sense while everyone else apparently knows exactly what you "should" be doing. I'd also say that SU is even more self-aware than AT, something that surprises and delights me every time they make a cheeky in-joke about their own work. (Amethyst: "Who wants to watch a show about people crying?"; Steven (visibly tearing up): "I do!") Also, the production team seems to have a phenomenal work environment if the dev blog is any indication. So jealous.

As for theory-crafting I have to wonder if Lion is a gem creation or some kind of perma-fusion with a piece of Rose Quartz mixed in. Will they figure out how to permanently purge the corruption from Jasper, Centipeetle and the other gems they've bubbled? Will Peridot ever master the Earth technology known as "Comedy?" Do watermelon Stevens taste more like watermelons or Stevens? I must know!

One theory I heard about Lion is that he is a 'prototype' of Steven. Lion was an experimental fusion of an earth lion and a shard from [SPOILER REDACTED].

Ooooh, that's definitely feasible. It makes sense as Rose would look into safety concerns before trying fusion tech on Greg.

Rose wasn't going to 'try fusion tech on Greg,' from what we've seen(1), Rose was so infatuated with the organic life on Earth, and so in love with Greg, that she formed the right bits(2) to make a baby with him, and fused herself with it to give Steven life.


Notes:
1. What we understand from it may change as more of Rose's secrets are revealed.
2. Since the Gem bodies are basically 'solid-light holograms,' my guess is that they are completely 'Barbie doll anatomy.' After all, why go to the trouble to design in bits that you don't need.

I'm envious of that, myself! It must be a great show to work on.

I certainly hope they can fix the corrupted gems.....I wonder as well how they came to be that way to begin with? Blame seems to be pointed at the diamonds, but who knows?

Love that show! Thoughtful, funny, good plot and characters. Steven and Garnet are my favorites, I hope we see more of Bismuth. Poor Ronaldo... maybe it will be an episode to help him get his gf. I predict and epic battle against the Diamond authority, but who knows how long that will be.

They do seem to be building in that direction. They're in the midst of season 4, and 5 is greenlit, so there's plenty of time!

I think both Amethyst and Peridot has become some of my favorites to watch.

I like it for the ever exposed mythos and history of the world and characters. Although they can be very blatant at time, mostly due to Steven not bothering to ask followup questions.

Yeah, that group who drove that girl to attempt suicide over fan art were WAY over the line. Rabid fans like that make me reluctant to join in.

Gems can shapeshift, so even if Rose never shifted into a slender body, there was the potential, so a slim Rose is not 'fat-shaming' the BBW out there.

I -used- to enjoy Adventure Time, but that fell off for me a ways back, when it simply kept the weird portions and seemingly discarded anything that an interest in its characters.

As for Steven Universe, though, that's pretty much the BEST show on right now. By far and away, since Season 2 started, it's had no truly bad episodes, and 95% of the ones that have shown are progressively better and better.

Of the Crystal Gems themselves, I'm a fan of Amethyst. But my favorite character of the show by far is Jasper. I'm a villain lover, and she was unapologetically a great villain. With Season 3 being her arc season as well, we ended up knowing so much more about her, and it just cemented her, in my mind, as a really solid character. Plus, when she (or Malachite) is involved, we're treated to some of the best fights in the show.

I'm still torn on who my favorite character is. They've all been developing quite a bit in the last dozen or so episodes.

Mononoke was also a Miyazaki film (and probably my favorite of his). There's also a scene where the Ruby Eye ship lifts off that has a distinct Fooly Cooly vibe :)
It is hard to pick a favorite; I can't say there are any of the main characters that I don't like.

I just caught up with all the episodes. Peridot is my favorite, especially in the carnival episode with Steven and Amethyst. Along with Gravity Falls and Rick and Morty, they've been some of the best recent shows for me.

Love Steven Universe! It's one of my favorite TV shows currently airing. Favorite character thus far has to be a tie between Garnet and Stevonnie. Hopefully they'll come out with proper season sets one day. This is one show I'd definitely like to add to my Blu-ray library.

No kidding, CN is terrible at getting season sets out. We were super lucky to get as much Adventure Time as there is, but there's nothing for Steven yet, season-wise. That needs to change!

Garnet is my favorite gem. Steven is right up there, however, Greg is my favorite character. It's rare to actually have an animated TV dad that isn't an overgrown manchild. Greg is pretty much taking care of one child and three monsters intent on breaking all his kid's shit. Him becoming a millionaire was a mercy.

*Raises paw* Meeee! I love that show! My favorite character is probably Stevonnie, or Smokey Quartz, I really like their fusion personalities. Peridot is definitely high up on the list, she's developed a huge amount since coming to earth.

If I had to guess, Lapis and Peridot fusing is the most likely, out of all of the options for the two of them, but given Lapis's history with fusion, she might want to avoid it entirely.

No idea about Rose and the lions, but probably some origin story for Lion that we'll see at some point.

I really hope we see Bismuth again, they've developed too much of her character to not explore it, maybe they can convert her so she's not so shatter-happy.

Also choosing a favourite gem is too darn hard. Pearl is lovely. Ruby and Sapphire are adorable and Garnet's humour always gets me. Peridot is damn close to winning though.

I've missed a bunch of the new ones over the summer, since I don't really watch normal TV (not into that whole "you watch it when we say you watch it" sort of thing that TV still expects us to do, having been spoiled by youtube these past years). I really need to catch up. It's a great show, though, music is really good, and Joel from MST3K does a voice on there.

Also, it's pretty well confirmed that it takes place in Jersey, which is fun for me as I live there. And, I mean, where else would it make more sense, anyway?

Nobody mentions anything until there's a cold distance between the heat and the simmer. ... I called it as soon as Jasper started going corrupt. I've just started season 2, so I don't know most of what you said! I'm a fan also though! Every time I try to pick a favorite character I think about the others and I can't decide! I love how they all interact with each other. Like the whole cast is a fusion. XD

I had that problem too until Peridot. :3 Before her, I leaned well into the Amethyst side of the spectrum, though. Season 3 and 4 are great, I hope you enjoy them!

I'm leaning towards Pearl. I like her whole "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" style. ^^ Peridot is hysterical though. =D

Dude, I just finished watching up to the current SU episode and my gawd, I am in love! Not often has a show gotten my attention as much as this one XD my favorite is Pearl, second comes Peridot, and I will say my favorite scene of Peridot was when she questioned if everyone could fly, and casually pushes Greg off the roof of the barn! Also I hope we see Jasper come back and give us a bigger understanding of her backstory. I felt so bad for her when you see beyond her tough exterior, there is something much more emotional and deeper that seems to just need a hug. granted she may punch you afterwards!

I also noticed and questioned Rose with the lions, and have pondered what if Lion was Rose. Seeing she gave up her gem to give life to Steven, that whatever may have been left became another form of a corrupted gem, but instead of feral aggression, becomes a tame creature that wishes to be with Steven all the time.

They put so much work into story and character development, and problems aren't always resolved in the same episode where they appear, which keeps you invested. I've always liked the show but Peri pushed it to the top ^_^ She's so freakin' cute. And I love Pearl's breakdowns; she's always so collected and then suddenly, manic!

I was wondering that about Rose too; it wouldn't surprise me, she's got so many unique abilities. Can't wait to see what happens next!
