To commemorate the day that Vesuvius erupted and buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, I am putting my picture, Their Last Day in Pompeii, as my featured submission. And yes, I know the big wall of lava is historically totally inaccurate, but it DID make for a good dramatic scene. Better probably than people running around in a cloud of hot ash, being smothered, poisoned by the fumes and buried as they fell, which was more the way it went down. Though that might have been kinda interesting to try to portray also. Still, I love the way this picture by

This is also kind of timely considering the massive earthquake in Central Italy today. Odd, in all the accounts of the earthquake that I've seen so far, no one seems to have noticed the coincidence of the dates.

I haven't seen that, and thank you for posting the link. Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait till after the first of the month when my data renews before I can watch it unless I want to go over my limit and pay a bunch for overage. But I bookmarked it and put it where I won't forget. I want to see this!

I mean how many coincidences were tossed out there on 9/11/2001 while they were still counting how many had died? Bringing that up knowing that we are about to remember that day 15 years ago.
And what he is missing in all that is what he said could be considered offensive to someone else because he totally disregarded the fact that so many people died in 79 A.D.
