On the subject of, 'Selling Adopts to a "Good Home"'

Have you ever bought an adopt/a character and not used them? Like, you might have this little story in your head for them, you might daydream that story from time to time, but otherwise that character just sits there and "Collects Dust"?
You ever see someone trying to sell adopts/characters and tack on, 'I want them to go to a good home', and you want to buy something they're selling, but you know you won't really use them??
I always feel bad when I see people rant about, 'People hoard X and never use them!', or, 'I sold X and it never got used :/' because just because you don't see it being used, or just because it's not being used in a way you deem acceptable, doesn't mean this is bad.
Now, not to say your feelings are invalid. You're upset by this and that's okay. You had expectations, and they weren't met, and being upset is a part of that process. There's not much you can do about it other than give yourself time to be upset, then eventually move on from that! But sometimes people just like how the character looks, and it makes them feel happy just to have it. Maybe they're using it for private RPs, and just because you don't see them posting a billion pictures of this character, doesn't mean it's not loved. Maybe they just wanted a face to put into their own head world for personal daydreams, and this was the perfect face. YOU may never see it being 'used', but that doesn't mean it's not.
Just because it's not your version of a good home, doesn't make it a bad home.
If y'all ever get anything from me/Deletethestars, know there is no added stress of us wanting it to go to our views of a 'good home'. We want you to be happy, and if simply having this character in your possession is all you wish to do with it, then it's gone to a good home.

I just say 'a lovely home' just to be nice. I have no definition for it. And anything can be considered lovely. So... I figure it might be a bit neutral.
This is utterly amazing
I love every design I purchase.
I just don't time to always draw then or money to always commission them.
And yes some of my adopts get more attention than others
But I will always love the designs I purchase.
When I don't connect with a design I resell it or give it away.
And a lot of them are just like you said.
They're just faces to ideas I think about but never made myself.
And it's nice to have them.
And reselling/giving away is totally cool. It's sad to see people who have been strong armed out of selling/giving away "unused" adopts. I've seen that once or twice, and it's just like hey look, you're happy owning it, you don't have to commit to other peoples ideals of "using" them to gain you're, 'I'm allowed to keep this without guilt' badge. You do you with what you own.
I'm happy you're happy with what you have <3
I actually had someone I BOUGHT an adopt from try and tell me they were taking it back because they never saw me post any art of it after I bought it...
I told them I DID use the character, just not online. And they had no right to take what I had paid for because they felt I wasn't using it 'right'.
People are so dumb sometimes.
I have made adopts that people have bought and I've never heard from them again... SO WHAT? It's not my character anymore, so what do I care what it's used, or not, for?
It's not theirs anymore, every adopt seller should already have the possible thought of, 'Whoever buys this might not live up to my standards of 'using', and that's okay'. So sorry you've had to deal with that :<
It's sad, but that's what it took for her to back off.
I mean I cannot deny I sometimes wish some folks who had designs I love had a place where I could oggle them too. But thats mostly cause I am a weird creeper who likes to look at what folks have and ooh and ahh over their aesthetics. But I also realize it likely is a pain on their end cause then they likely end up with folks who would see what they ahve and try to ask if they can pry it away from them.
<< And.. yeah there's been a few people I've run into that have tried to strongarm adopts (used/unused) off people. Ryn has gotten many notes over the years where people pretty much ask her permission to take someones 'unused' adopt, or ask to be pointed in the direction of some adopt they've never seen anywhere and therefor deemed 'unused' and that they'd be better suited for it 8B Ah the life.
omg tho, none of that -baps hand-, people buy from you because they want to >:0 They chose to do that!
I am so, so sorry you get that and by all means, direct them to me so I can have a word with them >T
I can understand being bummed to see your adopts turning into trade fodder :( But... idk, a-at least they deemed it amazing enough to be used as a bargaining chip? ...Okay this isn't really a bright side >>;
However, I can't help but be just a little disappointed when someone buys an adoptable I think is absolutely stunning and then doesn't even put the basic image they purchased in their scraps to be all "hey yeah I own this!" As in, there's no evidence that the character exists at all outside of the artist's own page. I understand not having any other images, as perhaps the one who bought them isn't an artist and doesn't have anymore funds to spend on more art, but yeah. Just a little sad I suppose. ;;
Other than avoiding rude people tho, I can't think up anymore excuses as to why. Nevertheless, I can understand why it'd be sad uwu/
But I do mind people who I know only get designs so that they can use them as trade fodder or to resell for higher prices which actually has happened to me. There are certain users who I don't trade with at all because I know that 99.9% of the time they're just trying to get designs to retrace them right away. I've considered putting cool down periods of designs that go through me because it's kind of upsetting if someone tells me they have great ideas for an adopt and then less than 24hrs after our trade, they have it up for trade. Like, not even in a mass of unused characters, they're actively trying to get /that/ particular design traded e3e
It's aggravating and you shouldn't have to deal with that :/
I'm someone who takes a LOT of time to build up a character, and rarely do I see a design and immediately know what that character is going to be like.
Sometimes doodling them just gives me the chance to develop their character, and I don't always post the doodles I do, and people don't realize that just because you don't see use doesn't mean it's not happening.
I've only ever been harassed a couple of times because I had a design by x person that someone felt I "didn't deserve", or in one case their friend made it and they harassed me because they offered to make me another design and I said no (because I got the character for me and I wanted it :V)
For me, having a lot of characters means having a lot of potential for different personalities, species, features, and body types to work with and I love making stories and silly/cute things because it makes ME happy. If I like what I do, I post it.
(whoops sorry I went off on a ramble there)
No one should be harassing you for your designs, and if you ever need me to eat them, give the word and I'll eat them >8I
And it does take time to put a story to a face occasionally! There's characters I have that sit there for months on end until I'm like, 'oh, you'd fit here well enough!' No one else should be allowed to say otherwise.
There are some I REALLY love I want to go to great homes, long-time homes, but in the end, once they're out of my hands, they're out of my hands.
I also have pretty lax rules in terms of adopts I sell too, though, so. Not that I sell many. But. You know.
of joy from looking at it and owning it? even if that's short term, I'm just happy that someone is
happy to have it?? I'm so much more of a like.. collector? when it comes to adopts. some designs
end up being characters, but plenty I just have to have something from an artist who I like and/or
want to support!
I never thought of that tho, some adopts are gotten just to support the artist. That's pretty cute and something to keep in mind for sure :0 Good on you Catling uwu/) You're such a good bean.
I've heard of a couple of ppl forcing refunds and taking characters back if they're 'not loved enough'
